[quote="Ascian"]My newest WIP - Earlyish stages - All feedback welcome! edit: Oh and ignore the little part at 1min 23 - That will be changed!

Soundcloud

Ascian,

Really nice intro, except there seems to be one note from the bell sound that resonates to loudly, notch it out with some eq perhaps.

Also, the vocal sample sounds a bit muffled and needs a little de-essing. Try a low cut filter at 100Hz, cut out some what ever mid range frequencies that sound shit (do this by sweeping the mid range with the eq boosted and narrow Q then pinpoint especially crappy frequencies and change the boost to a cut.) Then a high shelf eq with +4-6 db gain to give it some clarity. Then if you can't get rid of the 'essing' with eq try a de-esser.

The bass drop is sick, love the whoomping basslines. however it needs to be louder (or seem louder) than the intro. Maybe try some master volume auto-mation.

I feel that some elements of the bassline need to come out more. Just some simple level adjustments should fix it.

A little trick I use to give my basslines a little more width is to create a send, and on that send place a chorus, followed by a stereo width plugin (flux makes a great free one!) and a subtle amount of reverb if desired. Then turn the send up or down for more or less stereo width.

Hope I wasn't to harsh! Keep up the goodwork.

jlennonmusic - Cheers for the feedback mate, great stuff! Not too harsh at all..

I was wondering if I could get your opinion on the below.. Whether I should use the first vocal or second vocal for the tune or whether to just abandon the vocals and just make it instrumental

Also, how to integrate the vocal better on the drop as at the moment it's a little immediate

Vocal 1

Cheers mate, appreciate it
thanks man for FF, but yeah, i knid of just half assed those High hats, cause i was sending the file back to bevoh and i wanted it to have more structure in the drop, but yeah i know the ride is repetitive :cornlol: but yeah ill definately follow you on SC and leave comments on your tracks on there! :W:
Haha, fair enough.. Well mate it's great so keep it going!

Voc 1... defiantly better. As to make it less immediate you could try taking the first word, in this case "I". Copy it to another track, time strecth till its the length of a bar or two... also use monophonic time stretch algorithm if the option is there. (what DAW are you using btw?) then reverse it and make it fade in. So you essentially get the sound "IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII-walk with an army....."

jlennonaudio - Really fun drums at the start and I like the build up to the synth.. Really playful!

White noise kicking in, maybe some midrange frequencies need to be taken out around 500 - 700Hz

After the drop, love the synth work!! Love the really high pitched synth too

The second time the "baaaadmaaann" sample comes round, maybe use a sampler to modulate it a bit more for a bit of variation

Overall, love it! Crazy vibes but it all fits together and works, good job

Thanks for the feedback to the people who gave me some a while ago, i wish i could post more often and keep up with this thread but i am working like mad right now.. anyway

@Ascian: I think the way the vocal comes in is not too sudden, i prefer version 2.. But i think the problem with it is that the tempo of the vocal is different from the rest and it is clashing.. I think if you move some stuff around on the vocal track and mess with it a bit you can get it to mesh with the rest and it'll sound a lot tighter. There's a couple of ways you could go about it.

@jlennonaudio: i like the fun sounds you use and that whole buildup at the start is fun too. I feel like the drums should be a little bigger sounding for this type of tune but that might just be me.

@hudson: That dream stability one sounds awesome.. Love the weird creepy but cozy atmosphere..

Here's something i made last week, trying to think of what else i could do with it. Not sure what genre you would call it heh:

Here's something else i made for fun with some porno samples:

PS: can anyone recommend any cool remix contest going on right now?

Little something I been working on for a little while still in two minds about the low end considering the one I am using atm is a sample i have messed around with (Still trying to master masssive)

@um4mi reminds me of a kinda hip hop fusion!, I like the background going on but I think you should really mess around with the mid bass modulate it make it wobble.

@jlennonaudio i prefer the second one as well and I do like the bass in the second clip, maybe chop the vocal up a bit whack some reverb and delays make it sound darkkkk.

@hudson I am feeling the mellow vibe on the second clip, if there was more percs running around the background would sound like a right dubtechy smoker vibe. (I do think you need a harder snare though or maybe a bit more reverb, make it spaceyyy)
