I was under the impression these are limited because of the samples used, I might be completely wrong though

economics 101
When supply decreases demand increases
When demand increases, willingness to pay increases
Thus for a limited run of copies the equilibrium price will be higher in order to a)weed out customers who dont think its worth enough and b)cover costs
now until you own stock in swamp81 id recommend dropping the entitled attitude

untightled wrote:Falty's first release was 500, so why not continue the Mean Streets sequence by pressing another 500? All other releases are not limited and will continue to get represses if necessary, to paraphrase Loefah in his latest interview.
I can see your point but, there's been been 9 releases since Part 1. Releases which, as Loefah said, sell 2000 copies in a matter of weeks. More people started buying the stuff they put out since, more people got in touch. The demand levels are much higher than they were one year ago. Supplying the same amount of a product on a market that has, if something, doubled...it just won't do.
Not taking the piss, it's Loe's decision how many copies he sends out.
I'm just not feeling it so much if it's all just a matter of who gets to it first or if I have to pay at least 20-30£ extra to some jackal on Discogs.

How the fuck is asking for a bit of justification having an 'entitled attitude'?

Step down.
I back labels in near enough everything they do, it's their choice on what format to put it out. I just think £10 out of the blue compared to £7/8 for other releases needs a bit of explanation. It just
seems to be an attempt to cash in, which is something I wouldn't expect, hence the justification.
As for owning stock man, this is underground dance music man, I would hope "it's not about the money", which it more than looks like here. As for 'weeding out customers who don't think it's worth enough' well that'd just be taking the absolute piss mate. We've already discussed covering costs which doesn't really apply to a record that was a guaranteed sell out. Also, labels have pressed less than 500 before and still didn't charge £10 for it.

In two minds about Mean Streets 2. The b-sides and the price are putting me off, but the a-side (hopefully it's fairly long) and it's limited pressing is making me wanna draw for the credit card

to be honest, times are hard for everyone at the minute, £2/3 is quite a lot of money (depending on your income obv.) if you spend a lot on records as it is it makes a difference.
just my 2 cents, i don't really care as i wont be copping this one anyway. not feelin' the faltydl stuff.

No, it's not a lot of money on a one off, I just don't want it to become this way every time. As Badger said, records are getting more and more expensive, and for something that's pretty expensive for 2/3 tunes anyway (compared to digital), it's easy to see why people are sacking vinyl off.
Fortunately I'm in a pretty comfortable position money-wise and can pretty much afford to grab all the releases I want, but if suddenly every release is coming in at £10, I'd be hard pushed to keep it up.
To wrap it up, £2/3 is not a lot of money, but some months I'm buying 20/25 pieces, it'd be another £50 a month which would be really pushing it.
Not particularly bothered about this one release, I'm just hoping there's another realistic reason for the price jumping up, other than "because they could."

I should add though, that the tunes are quality.

decrease in quantity is an increase in value
yea its a steep price, but its worth me not saying "WHY DID I NO COP?!"
everyone says how loe is such a boss
well here is a perfect example
if he wants 10pounds, ****** is gunna get 10fknpounds. no ifs ands or buts about it
hahaha "because he can" could probably be true
if you like it, swoop it
if you dont, simply dont
complaining about the price is not going to put the record in your bag
just put off the other release you were thinking of purchasing if its a money issue
PEACE, literally

@ gareth - fair point! i was just being a bit of a devils advocate, but you are right. if all records follow suit, it will be hard to keep up. I wonder if this is will become more a trend as the prices of pressing records increase? i buy most of my records 2 hand, but for my dance music expenditures, it could get quite expensive if rates increased across the board

Haha, I grabbed a couple of other releases I'd wanted for a while. It literally did come down to like £2.50 difference whether or not I'd be grabbing the Falty DL piece too, just got enough money to put petrol in my car before pay day now.
Think that's why I'm so bothered, in this case, that £2/3 rise stopped me from being able to afford it haha.

Maybe the slight increase in price has something to with this?
Looks like they had to print 500 slightly different sleeves instead of 500 identical ones. I can imagine that would cost a bit more.
I do agree though, it's a bit pricey.
