Your sub bass should really be on its own channel and attached to the other sounds by midi control or an audio bus.

If i have a pad im using that has a sub bass tied in with two other mid frequency osc, is their a way to sidechain the sub appart from the rest of the patch? Is there a sidechain feature with multiband compression i could use with this? Or should i look into splitting the frequencies and bouncing the sub to a new audio track?

Helps appreciated greatly
your patch sounds weird to start with...so you've got a patch that's a pad sound AND a sub?

i don't think you can sidechain with the multiband compressor in live. i reckon you need to split things up and not after the event but at source, if there is no other way of doing it then yeah split the frequencies but if you can deal with the problem earlier in the chain then it's better.

This would probably be easiest, theres no reason i shouldn't go with it. Im not trying to save cpu or anything. Just being lazy and not going through th process of matching the envelopes that make up the pad with my sub. :)

You can just duplicate the channel then change the instrument to whatever you prefer for a sine

Duplicate the instrument and seperate the sub and the pad?

Well for that particular patch yeah.
Duplicate it and turn off the two mid oscillators that are making the pad leaving the sub.
Turn the sub off on the original channel.

I dunno what Redderious is using but if it was operator you could just drag a new instance in on top of the 2nd patch and make it a sine, all the envelopes/automation should stay in place

It took me a whole two minutes to recreate the sub on a seperate midi track. I've learned my lesson

WHYYYY cant i automate pitch bends in clips when using massive???

If I have massive on a midi track, pitch bending doesnt work, has no effect... why???

is that in clip automation you're trying to do that?

yes it is

yeah some plugins i've found it doesn't work. couldn't you automate pitch using parameter in massive?

I could but the clip automation in ableton is so much easier as it has the semitones laid out. I can get the parameter into the available automations by configuring it, but then im left with values 0-10000 that are meaningless

bleh maybe im not seeing the easy way to do this..

fair point, personally i'd just make the sound in operator but that's just me.

Hey, what's the best way to collab? I'm sending files back and forth but when the recipient opens it and tries to play whatever I put down, the midi tracks dont play any sound. is this because he doesnt have the samples im using or what?

I've run into the same problem, im trying to to a collab with a friend on the other side of the country right now. What i'm doing is just sending him an audio file containing a verse made by me as well as all the samples im using. As far as sharing the actual project i couldn't tell you how.

hey are any of you guys using operator for your mid/high basses?

Im kind of at the point where I feel like i cant get the sounds out of operator that I can with massive, but I can much more easily control automations and modulations on operator... catch 22

i know its kind of vague, but I just feel like there is more power in operator im not utilizing... anyone have tracks up with some sick basslines they have made in operator? Id like to hear and talk about them!

re: Collaboration:

If you guys both use Live and have the same version (because Live has no backwards compatibility) you can use Dropbox and have your project set up there. Instant sync, just don't work on the project at the same time. And save often.

:)

What are you specifically having trouble with in massive? The modulation control is one of massive's best features.
