Amarcord, one of those movies that balances between humour and sadness really well

I thought so too.

Watching Nightcrawler now. Better than Birdman.

Birdman - Really enjoyed it. Some really interesting, original stuff in there. All the Ed Norton stuff is great but it wanders a bit.

Nightcrawler - Does what it does very well, not a classic but a really good film. The two leads are great.

A Walk among the Tombstones - The first 3 minutes were the best thing I've ever seen, then he stopped shooting everyone and it lost the plot. Gave up soon after.

Whiplash - Brilliant. Yeah it's really melodramatic but it had to be like that work. I didn't believe it would be so horribly tense (as it suggested in the trailer, which I thought made it look really stupid) and JK Simmons is just ludicrous in this. It seems like people who aren't in to drums are enjoying it too.

Inherent Vice was pretty great but thoroughly confusing. I might have to watch it a few more times when it comes out on blu-ray to really understand everything about the plot, but it was really funny, the acting was good (Phoenix in particular shines as usual) and they had that whole psych-noir tone down to a t. Felt a bit like the The Big Lebowski's spiritual successor. Recommended.

Nas: Time is Illmatic, pretty interesting watch about one of my favourite albums, if not a little prentious and overly self-congratulatory at times

Donnie Darko

god I hated the protagonist in this. Such an edgy teen prick. Like haulden Caulfield but 100x less sympathetic. And the film world is set up in this simplistic ass way to just affirm him on how important and smart he is all the time. Like the smug self help dude who has an irrelevant made up philosophy that's too simple for the smart and passionate Donnie D, who sees things how they really are, man. That guy also has to be a pedo of course, so Donnie d gets to go burn his house down all hooded up like a little emo chump.

There was some cool visual shit in there, most of the bits where he was melting down in the therapist office and seeing Frank and hearing his voice was filmed and cut in a really cool eerie way tho. Also that long sleeve t with the motocross design on it he wears is sick as fuck.

But yeah, it seemed like a film designed to appease smug emo stnuc

I can't believe how bad Interstellar is, having watched the first half.

Like every single little bit about it has been shit.

The characters are laughable and the same actors do exactly the same thing as their identical characters from the last batman. MM even speaks with a retardedly gruff voice like Bale does.

Nolan is just a bad director.

*feels*
