I thought the new Cronenberg was supposed to be pretty good? Agree with the rest tho, I feel like if Scott doesn't get it right with his next one he should just retire to avoid devaluing his own legacy further

Only got to watch it today, but yeah it was pretty shit, interesting premise but the execution wasn't very good, found the mini annabelle segment in the conjuring better than the actual film

The whole family does I think.
Lost in Translation is all his daughter Sofia. That family is basically like the
Corleone family of Hollywood.
You'll see Jason Schwartzman at the reunion and of course Nic Cage.
One of his sons was killed in a ridiculous speedboat accident too. Could make
a nice trilogy out of those stories

Yeah Roman Coppola is mainly a screenwriter, he wrote Moonrise Kingdom with Wes Anderson and has a new show on Amazon - Mozart in the Jungle - which is supposed to be quite good.
The son who died in the crash, Gian-Carlo, had a daughter who is making films now as well. Her name is Gia and she made Palo Alto along with James Franco.
Talk about a dynasty...
I actually thought hubb was referring to Cronenberg, whose son is ALSO directing films now. Haven't watched any of them though

Its not bad, I mean there are worse ways to spend an hour and a half and its on par with taken.

No, it's like taken 4½
He's avenging his ... dog lol !!!!! and it's Keanu at his very worst.
Taken is a pretty good revenge film.

I thought John Wick was on par with the first Taken if not better. Don't watch it for the plot, but the action is really well done and it's self-aware enough to know its own strengths and limitations

I reckon saying that is fair enough if the choreography in the action scenes and how complex and dancey they get is the measure . I didn't mean that entirely sarcastic!, because like in a bad film like hero or crouching tiger or that super gay trapez show in las vegas, people are genuinely entertained by it and see it as thrilling or whatever - which is just taste.
But it would unfair to film in general, not to nod it's hat to making Liam Neeson an action guy now. That was a great idea, underlined by how many similar roles he's had recently. But we are talking film and there's just more film in a film like taken than wick. The dialogue was 'cool' the first time around. It's become a line what he says, already.
They are definitely similar but the things that doesn't work in Wick are the strongest bits about Taken and the rest they can compete on at least...
(I assume some dance expert might have a say .. ...
lol so unfair I'm sorry i'm using dirty tricks now ).

Also idk if i posted but i recommend These Final Hours, about the last 12 hours of a dude in Australia as the world has just been hit by a massive meteor, and the explosion is working its way around the planet.

To me John Wick felt way more like a comic book movie whereas Taken was more "grounded" (stay with me). Taken has more of a storyline and actually keeps the plot moving - although the story is still mostly an excuse to kill dudes and blow shit up.
John Wick sort of did away with all that and basically just threw Keanu into the sickest setpieces and let him kill people. Even the dialogue and every "non-action" sequence feels like a glorified backdrop for him to act badass, and I loved it that way. But the backdrop felt coherent and there was a lot of stuff only hinted at - that whole hotel thing, the way all those assassins knew each other etc. That's what I mean by a comic book movie, it was 99% about crazy action but it all took place in a world that felt large, coherent and threedimensional.
Not trying to take anything away from Taken which is great and absolutely did spark Neeson's comeback and spawned a whole lot of movies like it. Maybe I just like John Wick an unreasonable amount.
(It feels sort of weird to overanalyse movies like these, but imo the best dumb action movies have a lot of smart people and ideas behind them)

I respect that completely. You made it a question of taste again and I just didn'øt recognize that side of that film but you are right.

No the best films are the shit ones because you see the person behind it trying out weird shit with the wrong machines. It's like dance music
Re: Secret Ninja Movie Club (aka what have you watched latel
It's actually, and not that Kubric is camp or makes crap film, kind of what Kubric did in the first couple of films which is mind glass blowing. He thought he needed a new scope for the camera so he just built one. (Which, I guess meant, among other things, that he had to figure out glass blowing by himself ½ on set. I think it was in paths of glory.
What I'm on about ,is ofcourse the attitude available in shit film making. It's just more creative

Has there ever been a sci fi film with an actual techno soundtrack?
When movie scores wanna do a futuristic vibe they always resort to the same sort of strings and arpeggio synths, that shit is boring and not as futuristic as str8 slamming tekno

Some people like Blade Runner's soundtrack. Not exactly dance, though.
