Spent two hours waiting for him to turn into a space werewolf, or at least bite someone.
But no.

Space werewolf sounds cool. What about a jazz band conductor from hell?
Just saw Whiplash. If you liked Birdman, but you didn't like all the free tempo drumming,
check this one out. The actual Birdman is referenced to on several occasions and it's
all about drumming in time. Almost exclusively actually, jazz music sadly plays a minor role.
It also seems to me like the movie tries to convince its audience that the band leader's
methods are just?
There's plenty of things to like though. For example the brilliant performances by both
Teller and Simons and the way the movie is edited like a fast-paced jazz composition.

That's the idea isn't it? Everyone seems to have a different opinion on that.

I remember reading that the director meant to propose the question. Like: does the
end justify the means, or is this going over the line? But to me, with the ending as it is,
it seems like he is answering it (incorrectly).

- I can see why but I think Simmons' role at the end is kind of incidental to Teller doing well. I think he's managed to get beyond what a tnuc he is rather than been inspired by it, but I don't think it's meant to be clear either way.
As an aside, J.K. Simmons' bits on Portal 2 are amazing.

sort of a crap immature film for me - -
- [+] Spoiler
- like they act something out for sure and there's attitude in some of it that translates to us via the screen. ok.
But it's not realistic in the slightest.
The boy is unlikely, his family situation is basicaly a quest he has to pass. It's biblical in how clumsy it was on a moralistic level and the way the teacher is the devil and jazz is life and you have to take control and be a man and...... arrrrrrggggghhh ... I cut it off an hour in or so. Simmons character although he manages 'it' is just ridiculous. It's not authority or masculinity or anything, but just silly bulliying unchecked which ofcourse goes down in everyday life, but isn't worthy as a basis for this subject. Play music and you're bound to get bullied, is not a good basis for a story.

Yeah I would have liked it better if it was more of a family drama where his artistic ambitions
were not supported and he had to overcome that. Felt like a lot of the family- and especially
dad scenes were cut.
Enjoyed Der Baader Meinhof Komplex way more. Similar stylistically to Das Leben Der Anderen,
which makes sense of course. The film is action-packed.. I mean there's tons of shootings and
bombings, but that's true to reality. I like how it reflected the story from the side of the militant
group without coming across as biased. It really visualized the story as I read it in a great way.
An ideology that I would generally support, backed by such gruesome actions.. I hardly
believed what I was seeing.
