This, it's good to enforce better standards

fair enough. but it's only a niche of people who actually care about having the best quality, and until there's a bigger demand only for flacs/wavs don't think there's any reason for a label/company whatever to not sell mp3s

not that very technical but it might have something to do with how apple advertises their ipods. When they say it can hold X number of songs they can fit more in if they are all 256 not 320. idk just an idea

havent used itunes for a decade.

don't forget that itunes files arent mp3's though. cant just compare a 256 AAC file with the inadequacy of a 256 mp3 cos they aint the same

nah, its because Jobs reckons 256 is the best listening bitrate for its purpose (eg ipod)

Yeah it's still better than MP3 but it's just a massively pointless exercise. I reckon it's because Apple owns the licence for AAC but not FLAC (plus ALAC is used by nobody) so they would make less money selling FLACs possibly? Plus the strain of larger files and they're that pathetically money grabbing...

I dunno though

Still the point is though it sets a benchmark. It may be a small group who care but still it means if itunes stick with low quality there will be some releases that you can only find in that format as a result if only available on itunes(which pisses me off). Then add in that it sets the bar low for other people. If iTunes aren't pushing lossles formats why should they? look how many fucking hip hop mixtapes these days come in really low bit rate downloads only.

Lossy compression was designed for less technologically advanced days and is now waste. The only purpose it serves are people with ipods which is not the whole of music. Musical formats were always sold as being quality based in the past where as now no-one bothers with it and the masses are left vastly uneducated. Look at Blu-ray vs DVD. People get so arsey now about the difference between them but then the same people will probably a torrent of a 128kbps album and they probably don't realise it's going to sound inferior. The option for higher quality should be there for those who actually want to listen to music properly at home. Apple need to stop forcing ipod culture onto music and let us have a lossles format. Their mastered for itunes idea is not a solution. As far as I can tell it's just trying to make people master stuff to suit their VBR based codec instead of simply leaving the album as it should sound on cd and offering a lossless option.

Fuck iTunes it'll all be 256kbps and sound like shit when played out.
I <3 iTunes
ehbes why.

literally the only time I use it for anything other than simply playing my music is when someone gives me a gift card.

Just search silverdrizzle on YT. Probably the best grime channel for oldschool sets.

heard an alias beat in an old diesel set today, had bleeps on first beats then had some bubbly sorta synths later on in the tune...

if anyone could do us an ID off that vague description it'd be much appreciated lol
