FFS either we need a Swingin repress or a digital
I'm starting to think ultra limited edition vinyl is some bait fashion shit, and I own a couple.

I can excuse it in burgeoning scenes like this one. Pressing vinyl is really expensive, and just because there might be 5 people in this thread that want a repress, it is still underground even for the underground. I can see why a small label wouldn't want to risk £500 to press another couple of hundred and then only sell a handful.

Yeah exactly this, £500+ to satisfy a few fans who missed it when they could do another release instead.

Don't fall into the trap of "I want a repress, surely everybody wants a repress" and remember that outside of Dusk & Blackdown's show, this thread is probably the biggest repository of 130 stuff out there, and there's only about 5/6 people regularly posting in here.
Just gotta hope that if the scene does get big enough to justify a full repress they don't have some DMZ attitude towards it

Doing a repress is really cheap as you've already paid for the mastering and metalwork which is what costs the money. By the time I've sorted the release and got it mastered, promoed, in the shops, spammed up everywhere and then sold out I'm working on 2 or 3 EPs in front of that and would prefer to put my money into those. I presume its the same for other labels?
I could easily have sold another couple of hundred Cherryade EPs but my cash is usually tied up in the next few releases. Bit stupid really as you actually make some decent money on a repress as it costs so little to do.

Ah right, presumed it was only a bit cheaper than an initial run! Cheers for the info, I'm probably wrong then and Riddles is closer.

The price of vinyl has just gone up a bit (for me anyway) so its 95p a unit now. If you've already got the metalwork then its just that and a couple of pence for the black sleeve. So maybe £110 for another 100 copies. That's when you actually make some ok money.
I pay for everything with my spare money though so I want to do the newest stuff I've got, not go backwards. With the tunes I put out I think 300 is my limit really anyway so like someone said you'd probably have them hanging around for a bit. Not really a big deal at that price I suppose.
If I had something like Wooo Riddim that just went mental and sold out instantly then I would probably repress.

Yeah big up. Not enough info in regards to that side of the scene gets posted here, could do with some insight into that with the bigger labels as well where tunes seem to get repressed at almost random (Medi, Tempa, Swamp etc)
Gutted i missed out on Swingin, remember putting it in my basket on the Badimup Big Cartel then sacking it off to buy the next day

never did...

Quite happy to answer any questions if I know the answer.
With my EPs I sell 200 pretty quickly and then the last 100 take a while. I'm always giving my own money to the pressing plant/printers and then eventually at some point down the line I get a load back from the distributor. Its a juggling act tbh.
A lot of the bigger labels have pressing & distribution deals. Not really sure exactly but I presume that means the distributor pays for all of the vinyl costs/represses. I don't know if that means they have an influence on the tunes or not? You'd need to ask someone with one.
I can keep my costs down and pay the producer an ok amount because I do my own artwork so that probably saves £80 or something + my mate is a pro engineer so if I need some mixdowns he does them stupidly cheap for me. Always makes me laugh mixing 8 bar down in pro tools
My mates who run labels think I'm mad for this but I pay the producer before I get my money. It is probably a bit stupid but I'd prefer to get that wrapped up and then I get mine back further down the line when I sell the rest. Like I said though that isn't the way to do things if you're doing it properly. I just do it as a hobby though and I'm mates with most of the people I put out so I'm not bothered.
Anyway, even though I'm permanently skint I love it and can't wait to get the next batch in the shops.

We're on well different levels here, but I've got a small digi label (some physical coming soon) and I start paying producers when I've made back half my money so I can at least give them something. Shouldn't just be the producer that takes on the risk of getting nothing back from a release!

Yeah exactly, they did the work and deserve to get paid from it. I think usually the producer gets the profit I make from the vinyl and then I get the digital money which isn't much but that's not why I do it. You have to DJ as well if you want to make some cash as a producer I think.
Yeah I really liked the Splurt one, I was going for an Outrun sort of thing. I'm very happy with the JT artwork I just finished as well.
May as well do some spamming whilst I'm here. We've got Visionist & Murlo at the next Boxed. I can't wait!
