This is why making high quality recordings of acetates on their first play for digital use is a great idea, that way you get the sound quality of vinyl without the degradation of acetate

To be fair I dont care what a DJ spins on as long as it sounds good..

I would still wear one of these Tshirts though for the laugh

Yeah well said man. If I churned out beats at a high rate, I'd mix with CDJs too.
Problem I have is with DJ's who use CDJs and CDJs alone, without playing any of their own productions. Its cheap if you ask me. Especially when you consider that each tune probably cost 70p or was downloaded for free off P2P.

Only problem with churning out loads of tracks and dropping them the same night or soon after is the actual sound quality, which as you say is more important than how you look. The fresh-out-of-the-DAW mixdown probably isn't going to be the best, and I doubt there's many producers who master their own music very well, or have ME friends who will master their tunes for free before a gig. WAV or Serato or Ableton doesn't change the fact that the music is unmastered, perhaps badly mixed down, or even downloaded illegally.

Vinyl wins every time for me because:
1. It's cut to a physical medium where you can FEEL and SEE the music.
2. It has artwork. Even a white label is great - it gives the music an identity. Whenever I play off CDs I really miss the visual identification of the music. I haven't seen a CDJ with album artwork display yet.
3. It's guaranteed to be professionally mastered. I've dropped the same tune as an unmastered .wav compared to a Dub Studio 10" dub of the same track and there is NO competition. Dub Studio don't properly master before cutting but it still makes a massive difference from what I can hear. If you bring someone like Transition into the equation then its clear - you need to master your shit before its played out.
4. No matter what people say, vinyl has its own inherent quality control - its not cheap to make. I can't think of many tunes which are digital-only which I want badly enough to buy them and play out. 99% of the good dubstep which has been released, is on vinyl.

not to sound like a dick or anything, but that's kind of the point of burning a copy while the tune is still in the production stage. it's all about checking the MIXDOWN as opposed to the MASTERING of the track. the best mastering engineer in the world can't take a shitty mixdown and make it sound a whole lot better.

all they really do is pump the tune up loud as fuck and work it back down to 0db, playing with the EQ's and balance between the ranges and whatnot. (not to take away from the ME's, mastering isn't the easiest )

but my point is it's very easy when using CD's to burn a work in progress off and throw it in the mix to see how it goes over, whether it be sound quality you're looking for, or just how people like it in general.

so if you've played it a few times before sending it to your ME, and made adjustments from there, he'll have a much easier time turning an already well MIXED tune into a well MASTERED tune.




and for the record (no pun intended) it would piss me off too if i had spent hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars on vinyls only to see the emergence of CDJ's.
