They look nice and they've got a very smooth and intuitive user interface?

I didn't think it was that complicated...

I`m a Nokia user, I get his question.

I know this sounds incredibly cheap, but I also "got his question" before I had a proper smartphone... just need to phone and text, right?

I'd find it difficult to give up having a proper e-mail client and web browser in my pocket now. Ever want to know *anything* at any time or place? Reach into your pocket and Google it for free. Time to kill? Play console standard games or play with a fully functioning softsynth/sequencer. Wondering what star you're looking at? Point the phone to the sky and it'll tell you all about it (causing your lady's panties to instantly drop if she doesn't notice you looking at the phone).

I now only have to carry one thing around in order to make calls, access all of my online stuff, work remotely, listen to mp3 or digital radio.. I can even watch Sky Sports on it when I'm on the train. It's more versatile than my laptop which needs a bag to be carried around and only lasts for a couple of hours.

I'm part of a car rental scheme in London (ZipCar) - I can hire a car on my street at 5 minutes notice using nothing but my phone... it even unlocks the doors for me.

(This goes for all smartphones incidentally... I've got an iPhone, but I think I'm going Android when my renewal comes around in a month)

I have an N8, it has everyone of those features including HD and a 12.1 megapixel camera.

Surprised this has gone to page 8 without the standard response from some self rightious type saying 'I don't care about this one person, what about all of the dying perople in......'

You obviously missed this;
naphta wrote:"So far, at least 16 people have jumped from high buildings at the foxconn factory so far this year, with 12 deaths. A further 20 people were stopped by the company before they could attempt to kill themselves."

and nobody gives a f*ck

Then you do understand the fuss over the iPhone because you bought essentially the same device.

Great posting. Do you also have a fridge full of Pepsi, but not get the fuss over Coca Cola? ;-)

I just reread this and realized the N8 was pepsi.
I guess my response is all based on my preference for pepsi or coke.
otherwise I`d be soo mad, grrrrr.

I guess an argument is that without the iPhone you wouldn't have the N8, and without Steve Jobs you might not have the iPhone.

I wouldn`t say that Mr Hyde.
The iphone was not the first smartphone.

edit: the iphone was in fact only released in 2007, loooong after the first IBM smartphone.

fair enough, guess it has influenced other phones since 2007 though, for some reason they are really popular. (I'm no big fan of Apple, or iPhones, on an HTC android- seems better spec for the price)

Apple always seem a bit like a 'my first computer/smartphone/tablet' etc style of design.

When you die, it's said your life passes before you in a flash. But not for Steve Jobs.

Because Apple doesn't support Flash.

They're smartphones for people who are more interested in style and usability than in specs and price, basically. Which isn't an entirely crazy position to take - I mean, a lot of people wear expensive jumpers even though a craghoppers fleece would be cheaper and keep them warmer... if anyone who complains about iPhones being a fashion thing for fanbois is wearing Nike / Reebok / Addidas trainers, for instance, they really need to have a word with themselves.

And I think a large part of Steve Jobs' genius was realizing that making technology look nice and be slick and intuitive to use would actually make you quite a bit of money because there are a lot of people who don't know a gigabyte from a megapixel or don't particularly care.

Shouldnt u compare iStuff to pepsi? Find it rather insulting towards coca cola imho
