they wont put santorum or gingrich in the race
all about how "presidential" you look

And because of that, the moment they realized how much of an idiot Rick Perry was... it was decided that Romney would be the nominee

All eyes on Ohio?

ehh i dunno.

santorum could win ohio and newt will likely win georgia.... all it will do is prolong the process in an annoying manner

Heard an interesting debate this morning about whether his handling of the Israeli aggression toward Iran might be his undoing - US Jews typically vote democrat [sic] (I have no way of corroborating this statement btw), and failure to fully back Israel's policy on Iran at this time, and given he's meeting Netanyahu at the moment, might potentially cause anti-Obama protest votes as a result.

Random question - what happens to delegates that declare for candidates who subsequently drop out? For example, the two that declared for Jon Huntsman waaaaaay back now - do they simply become discarded, or go back into the 'pool' to declare for another still active candidate?

not 100% sure but I believe the candidate can pledge them on behalf of another candidate (ie give them to another one) or they can be vacated

Oh yeah...I'm half Jewish but I have little to no exposure to conservatism, being from Massachusetts (super liberal) and right now living in Portland Oregon (super liberal)

It depends on the state, too. Some states release the delegates of their pledges and will ultimately make up their minds as the race goes on towards the convention.

This article goes into a bit of detail about the complexity and weirdness of how the republicans have allocated their delegates this time around. http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.co ... gate-math/

I think it has more to do with the rest of the nominees. He's the smartest one IMO, and the least crazy. He's the only one that has a snowball's chance in hell of gaining any ground in a general election.
