this album can never be too over-rated imo, even if people concentrate on the external stuff rather than the music, sonically it's definitely one of the greatest BM albums ever. I would rather listen to the two note riff of freezing moon than any other passage of music in BM.
In the same area though I would say Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse is ridiculously over-rated. Emperor demo and Wrath of the titans is amazing but ITNSE sounds far too polished for my liking and everyone seems to bang on about how kvlt the production is. Disagree

Every Beatles album.
Nevermind by Nirvana. (in Utero being legit)

U2 - The Joshua Tree. In fact anything they've ever done.
Nevermind obviously. In Utero was the best one but didn't have any 'huge hits' except kind of Heart-Shaped Box.
The Kinks - Village Green Preservation Society. Let's be honest they were a singles band, this was just the shitest of concept albums.
Sufjan Stevens - Illinois. zzzzzz
That'll do for now

the smiths - queen is dead (i like the band but IMO its not the best album they did and they are definitely overrated)
pink floyd - dark side of the moon
radiohead - all their albums really (especially ok computer/kid a/ in rainbows)
animal collective - merriwether post pavillion
the field - from here we go sublime (love a lot of stuff on kompakt but i don't get this album really)
that neutral milk hotel album that pitchfork jizzes over (infact most indie stuff liked by pitchfork is overrated IMO)
quite a lot of 'seminal' albums rated by music critics leave me dissapointed tbh
also fucking hate the beatles

anything by the Beatles is massively over-rated
also it's the worst music for psychedelics ever, proper buzz kill

tbh, I was just saying, I really liked that tune.
I never liked them, but that tune... Shit. I think I might check out the album it's on.
JBoy wrote:Anything by burial is generally overrated, people cream themselves over his music like he's the new mozart.
I do wonder what people said of Mozart in his day. But yeah, 2nd this.
The albums themselves are solidly overrated to me. The tunes themselves, are at times good. But the ones I like aren't even the one's that get dick-sucked.
His music isn't bad, it's just not particularly significant imo, just blows over my head, a pleasant listening experience but ultimately forgettable. I think the only difference between his music and other dubstep of the time is that while others chose not to quantize, he didn't have the option
In fact any burial release is way over done, nothing really is THAT good, maybe 1 or two bits off each ep.
And that tune with massive attack. I think those were amongst the worst spent 11 minutes of my life.
With regard to mention of the Gorrilaz, Really? Overrated?
I mean, I've never really read of their music, and I only really liked Demon Days, I think Plastic Beach was a complete and utter let down to be frank. But geeezuzzz, Demon Days is actually my favourite album of all time. The last two tracks didn't take so well with my young mind when it first came out, but since then I can't actually fault it, Every one of those tunes has been a favourite at some point.
In perhaps more current events. James Blake anyone?
Actually fuck that. I think Grimes is the most overrated. Actually no, I think Hype Williams have the most overrated albums.
All this retro-esque shit 92kbps-recording-shit-house music is getting on my man tits. It bothers me that there's so much of it. I mean I can't actually fathom how one would actually begin to LIKE that music. I don't hate the tracks themselves, tbh I nothing them. But the amount of hype around them is frankly appalling.

No. Not even slightly. Underrated if anything.
Also yeah, say what you want about later OutKast, but ATLiens is criminally underrated.

Not that It's bad at all but 36 chambers.
There lyricism on there solo shit is way sharper Imo.
Also, a lot of Odd future's stuff.
They already kinda aged out of my listening tastes
in the little time they have been around.

Burial is not overrated. People like to think Burial is overrated for they assume he presented a way into IDM for a new generation. But this isn't the case at all. Archangel was the only tune of his that ever got widespread recognition over here and since then, he has been thoroughly forgotten again.
I think he honestly hasn't made a bad solo tune (collabs have always been less impressive except maybe with Four Tet). That isn't to say all his tunes are like passages of the bible. He still has a unique style and approach and yes, he "has jumped on the bandwagon" a bit with the last two EP's but they were still very distinct and oozing with melodic quality and vibes throughout.
I do believe he is one of the best producers of the new millennium. Not all his tunes are good, but other than that shit tnuc tune of J Da Flex & El-B's outrageously low quality compilation, he's been a steady source of quality: so not overrated for me.
BON IVER = overrated crap. I'll listen to Burzum any day over that.

I think both of the last 2 EPs are overrated. I've listened to them numerous times and apart from one tune i cant remember a single thing about them off the top of my head. With the albums it was completely the opposite

Imo Burial is overrated in the sense that people are acting like he's the only artist on earth who evokes emotion in his tunes.

Being 'overrated' is more than just about being 'really well known and liked' by a lot of people. It's when people start treating a particular musician as untouchable or close to untouchable, deifying if you will. Burial's totally in that category. He's got some fucking gorgeous work that I'll call some of my fav, but he's also responsible for a lot of mediocre crap. Especially recently. Heads acting like he's some sort of garage savior, while he's a musicians who gains popularity, peaks and falls off like any other.
Obviously, a lot of what I just said about Burial is mad subjective. But let's not pretend that Burial is incapable of making mistakes.
