Sounds... Make sure it's nice raw filter cuz I'm probably gonna be using them as my sub and midrange

I have one of these. Its a pretty good synth. I like making pads with it. I got it for $50, but partly because I had bought a Roland JV-2080 at the same time. It's my only hardware FM in my studio.fragments wrote: I don't "hate" Massive...but I gotta say...only good things, only good things...instead of FM8 I'm thinking of picking up one these sometime in the future:

Cool man. Any other thoughts about it? How is programing it? I head programming the DX7 was kinda a pain. Any info would be great, I've really wanted to get an FM hardware unit instead of a VST. Also, what do you think of the Roland JV-2080--is that a Juno rack mount?mks wrote:I have one of these. Its a pretty good synth. I like making pads with it. Well worth a listen
The programming is kind of tedious but you get used to it. I got a 3rd party software editor for it but I can't remember which one, I'm not on my studio machine right now. It did make things easier. It's a great synth, it can sound really nasty or it can make some smooth, icy pads.fragments wrote:Cool man. Any other thoughts about it? How is programing it? I usually prefer programming by hand, but I've not bought something too tedious yet.mks wrote:The programming is kind of tedious but you get used to it. The JV-2080 is awesome!! It is not an analog Juno synth, it is a digital rompler that is a moody pad monster. I love moody pads and I love this machine. It of course is capable of much more. It is the upgraded/more advanced version of the JV-1080 synth which was widely used by many soundtrack composers and was an extremely popular synth in the '90's. The 2080 has more expansion card slots, 8 compared to 4 on the 1080 and also a bigger screen and more effects. One of the reasons I bought this one, was that it was loaded with cards. A couple of these cards together are usually more than the synth itself, although the synth alone without any expansion cards is very very capable.
A couple of the cards are Keyboards of the '60's and '70's which is filled with Rhodes, Hammond, Wurlitzer, Clavinet etc. sounds and the Vintage Synth card which is all classic Roland analog synths.

yeah, except for the floor that is ceramics, partially coverd with a rug. It's a 3m³ room and I gotta use for vocals, live drums, guitars, basically to record and produce everything so I rather dampen it and work with an artificial room for the real instruments.SUBFLEX wrote:^ thats awesome bruv, is the whole room treated?
Not vintage, it's the efx. I wanted to go cheap without resorting to an eurorack haha. Plus the reverb sounds are decent, but far from good.fragments wrote:Thanks for posting that picture. Cool setup. Is that a vintage Soundcraft?
I completely understand that. I got a Eurorack UB2222FX-Pro for free, plus a rack mount case ;p (I think I mentioned it).Hircine wrote:Not vintage, it's the efx. My drums are in a small room and I've been thinking about deadening the room. Would you mind me asking if I could hear an unprocessed recording of drums in your room?Hircine wrote:yeah, except for the floor that is ceramics, partially coverd with a rug. Search the forum for a sample pack I did when I was recording drums for a dub riddin, I'm pretty sure I left those without any reverb on themArtie Fufkin wrote:My drums are in a small room and I've been thinking about deadening the room.
