'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' by Stieg Larsson. I'm about fifty pages in and frankly I think it's overrated, not up there with my favourite crime/thriller writers (Henning Mankell, Ian Rnkin etc). I'll persevere though

I havent read Doors, but you should read Island. Apparantly he puts what he has learnt from that time and in general into a utopian book. Too much philosophy for an average read, but its very interesting in terms of its ideas. Worth a read if you likes doors, i suppose.

I've got a bit further in and it's picking up steam, so I'm now giving it my seal of approval

Servants of the People

it's alright, but it finishes at the 2001 election so it's massively out of date. the amount of governmental in-fighting is pretty funny

Almost certainly my favourite booky thing ever. I can never work out if I prefer the radio shows or the books, but they're both amazing.

Yeah im just reading through all of the books. I heard Eoin Colfer has made and another thing (the sixth book) thats coming out on the 12th, RIP Douglas Adams i hope its like his work.
Just noticed this... saw an advert for that book yesterday too, coincidentally. I'm gonna grab it and see what it's like.

He's the bloke that provided the experiences/data for the "Why do most crack dealers actually live with their Moms" bit of Freakonomics, which he basically obtained by walking into a dilapidated highrise controlled by the Black Kings and just hanging out with them until they decided he was alright and not a cop/rival gang member... he befriends a couple of community organisers and cop, too... it plays out over 7 years that he spent with the gang.

Pretty easy going (it's not really a sociology book), really interesting and surprisingly warm/respectful to people who are caught up in unenviable situations. There's some massive laughs and the odd truly saddening revelation about life in the projects.

Highly recommended...

This one has been on my shortlist for ages, almost bought it once but the tagline on the cover turned me off, it's like a bad action movie. Yeah, I know the old saying...
