@cmgoodman1226- Great tune overall! Just some mixing you need to fix, like the tape noise thats layered on top of everything. Try side chain and eq that a bit so it sits nicer on the mid highs. The kick is banging but you could put a lot more power and thud through it. Do a bit of parallel compression and side chain it to your main hook and vocals with a short attack and release. It will punch so much a harder. From 0:18-0:22, there was a nice build up but the second sample at the end doesn't flow so smoothly by its self, try throw in something right before the transition.

@Kes-Es- The intro with the filtered out kick sounds a bit much to me, take that out and play the intro as it is. The whole track is setup nicely, but needs more sounds to be brought in and out. Everything sounds good besides that main bass, its too grungy and harsh, doesn't suit this kind of track at the moment. Try another bass patch.

@bouncingfish- Sup man! Have'nt talked to you in awhile pretty cool to see you finally post a track. Good to see you over at nhf . Your tracks pretty laid back and your bass has some killer movement. The piano in the background seem a bit dull. Duplicate the track and pan one left and right, low pass them a bit, drench it in some reverb and and a little delay to spread it out. Maybe layer a lower synth under it. The drums seem to soft, bring the levels up just a bit so there 3db louder than the main bass. Then do some parallel processing on the kick and snare. Then send all yours drums to a buss to do more processing like a bit of eq and add some slight reverb and saturation.

Not sure if this is allowed but I have two tracks I recently need feedback on. Really proud of these two since there my first real attempts at a song and im at the point where im happy with my sound design and mixing but my arrangement blows.... I want to add some heavy stuff later on but not sure how to bring it in. Might just makes these something laid back and work on a heavier bass tune another time.

Hey man, I changed the intro, I actually went a little more rough with the bass though. I was going for contrasting elements, this really wasn't made to bang heads, but here's the new version if anyone has feedback.

I really like the melody you've got going on and the sound over all is really well made. It's a decent catchy/stylish musical concept. 28 seconds in you need to hi pass that hit/sting it's got a little mud in the low end. Automate the EQ to come in just after the transient and main body of the thump so you can clear the muddy tail but keep the smack and weight of it. I think your compression is a little heavy in places too, there's audible drops of about 6 to 12 dB on things like the lead that seem aside to the subtle 'musical' side chain you've got going on. The sub seems a bit quiet and so do the hats and everything feels a bit center stage, have a think about automating stereo widening effects at the end of measures and such to create some stereo interest and have a play with the stereo image in general. Overall a cool idea though, I like it

Quirky as hell! I like it. got some nice trap elements in there but all really loose and off step while staying true to form, it's an interesting listen The mix feels a bit wobbly, the different elements don't feel very balanced or cohesive, like there feels like quite a dB gap between the kick and snare and the musical elements are either quite quiet or loud. I think it's a lack of compression? Try adding very subtle compression to most of your elements, around 4 or 6:1 and balance your threshold to duck about 4/6 dB, fast attack and medium long to long release (you don't want it audible) just tame the peaks and pull in the dynamic range a bit to reduce the fatiguing dynamics then set about balancing the levels of each elements around the kick and snare to attain a more even mix. With the mid range stuff, I also think it needs some EQing around the mid range, I'd say about 700 to 4k reducing around 3/6 dB with a low Q play around with it to reduce some of the boxyness. there's also a really high pitched ringing sound somewhere in the mix, I don't know if it's deliberate or not, but that also needs to be looked at as it's quite piercing. I also wonder why the track seems to get progressively louder in the last section of the tune. Don't know what's going on there Cool tune tho, keep it up!

wow! emotive sound. I really like this kind of stuff. Some of the reverse sounds in the intro are a little bit sharp, I'm feeling a 6dB (1 pole) low pass filter at around 8k/10k and a sharper cut @ 16k (butterworth if you've got one available to avoid the resonant peaking). Also as I've said to the other folks, some of your elements feel like they've got pretty big transients and could do with some taming. Overall the sound is really lovely and mellow and I really like where this is going. I don't think that snare works with the vibe though it's way too heavy imo. I think a washed out fairly high mid to high end snappy crack with some reverb would sound pretty lush with this (think burial/2 step snare). Finish this shit though man! I wanna hear how it ends up.

Ok. This thing is very nearly finished. It's for an upcoming vinyl release and I'm looking for some feedback on the mixdown specifically. I've got it to a point I'm pretty happy with but would love some critique from a few more sets of ears as I've hit that subjective wall with it now.

the drums aren't complete I don't think, I usually like to add a lot more subtle incidentals and what have you.
As for the bass sound, thank you sir, those are certainly fun riffs. What'd you have to put up for feedback?

White noise in the intro just sounds like my headphones are broken, why aren't they swept? I hear it in other parts of the songs too, very frustrating. Kill the Noise analogy synth lead in the intro needs some chords underneath it. Foreboding, drone bass note is good though. You need a proper transition to segue into the next part of the arrangement.

During the verse, there are these other vocal one shots that play around the main vocals. You could lose those or really push them to the outside of the stereo image and lower them, they sort of just distract my ears from the main vocal instead of accentuating it. Dig the lead, sounds like its in the harmonic minor. Dig the cheesy 8bit skank chords, could be brought up in the mix a bit.

Would like to see a more dynamic arrangement. Deprive us of some frequencies during the break and build to make the drop more impactful.

The drop sounds very professional, could have heard this on UKF. not my cup of tea but you nailed what you were going for. Bro drums hit nicely. I'd like to hear some rides in between the kick and snare, but that's just me. Trolley Snatcha growl is perfect how it is. Habstrakt whiney lead needs to develop harmonically somehow, I'd suggest simple a parameter or two set to an envelope so the sound moves a bit as a note is held. The parts where the vocal is re-introduced, I'd like to hear the vocal one shots beefed up and the other large elements in the track turned down for that one moment.

Loop at 1:10 with the second mid-bass patch after the growl needs its own section of the arrangement dedicated to it. Give us a break with the Habstrakt whine.

All the drum fills I've heard need work.

Track needs work, but there's definitely some serious potential for a pro sounding track here.

Just an FYI, I'm no mixing genius, my example track will be evidence to that, but I've listened to the track several times and I'll give you the best feedback I can.

First of all, I'd like to say that I really like the track. I know you asked for mixdown feedback, but if you could find a way to work some human element into the track without being repetitive -quotes, little pitched vocal chops at the end of your musical phrases, single held notes that are faded in and out, I would download the tune and throw it on my ipod now. The quote you have now doesn't really do it for me.

Anyway, the general mix sounds very tight, but IMO you've balanced things so well that almost every part of the arrangement lacks a thesis that says "this is the part of the song where X happens". What's the lead? Where's the sound that I hear that makes me think "oh can't wait to hear that again in another 4 bars"? Almost every element has been boiled down to a supporting role with no lead. The guitar at 2:28 is the best example of this: those four notes take center stage with authority and the rest of the track plays a supporting role. Organ sounds like the the hits have different velocity, I like that. IMO make it into two patches and make the quieter one wetter in reverb. Turn the delay DOWN on the organ. At many points of the track I WANT it to captivate my attention but the delay actually annoys me and lets me know its supposed to be some kind of background element that's just too loud in the mix.

Bass sounds perfect exactly how it is. That little saxophone hit is outstanding, could use MAYBE +1 db. The percs that sound like pitched up snares need to be pushed back more, too loud and too close. My personal opinion on the shakers are that I just don't like the samples, so I can't give good mixing advice on them. The hat/metal percs are PERFECT how they are, love how you nailed that sound. Snare is solid. The delay hit you put on the snare is excellent, but I'd like to see it turned up louder in some choice cases, then cut out the hats to give the delayed snare dominion over the rythmic section for a short period.

The breakdown is my favorite part of the track. The guitar is perfect, pads are good enough where they are. Bump up the harp's volume a bit, but push it farther away with reverb. Bass gets a bit predictable, but that's an composition issue. If this were my song, I'd turn the bass down in the break and build.

Overall, the track is very good and sounds like a finished product. You could get away with releasing it exactly how it is. All the adjustments I've mentioned are just tiny tweaks for volume or bumps up and down in space FX.

Like the ambiance in the fade in. Definitely needs to be pushed farther back in the mix and hidden a bit with reverb etc. I don't think the actual fade in serves as a good intro, I'm not sure if that was a temporary addition just to throw something up on SC. Also the snare doesn't sound right lowpassed like that, especially if the kick is still dry. Kick could really use some velocity adjustment so every hit doesn't sound exactly the same.

Build up doesn't prepare me correctly for the drop.

Main synth sounds like everything turned up to 10 in massive and could use a bit of toning down, especially in the upper frequency ranges. Could use some space fx to push farther away, it sounds like its directly in front of my face. Also appears that the main synth is side chained to the kick, which in this case sort breaks up any flow the loop has rather than adds a rhythmic effect. I would confine my sidechaining to the lower frequencies in this case.

Main loop in the drop could use some kind of call and response. Give me a damn break from that in-your-face sound every 8 or 16 bars!

Not really my kind of thing but i'll give it a go.

All your synth sounds in the intro are lovely. Nicely balanced. Maybe try layering a couple of extra effects, the one high passed whoosh is good but there could be a little more aural interest going on.
Nice lead going on for the intro.
The drop could have a bit more impact.
I'm liking the melodies.
Definitely use somethnig other than that high passed whooshing sound at some point. I know what its there for but after a while it kinda grates.
2:30 that breakdown is lovely.
2:47 there's a heavy bassy sound here that sounds way out of place. It sounds like it could do with some send effects and a bit of resampling. It repeats later and still sounds off.

All of this is being picky. The production in general is awesome. I like that the song has definite direction and doesn't linger too long.
I don't like the outro though, it could maybe stretch longer or maybe high passing the beat just sounds a bit cheesy for me.

Nice job though, great stuff!

That beat is hella confusing coming in, but i like it.
Your bass synths are way too loud. Its impossible to feel the impact of those drums.
Bass synths could also do with some effects and a bit of subtlety. Like Ocelots Revolver said, it just sounds like everything's turned up to ten and your automating with a mouse on the dials.
Could maybe do with a pad in there. somewhere. Its very short so its hard to give specific advice.
The bass needs to drop out for a few bars and then come back in for a nice drop.
The snare needs a bit more snap.
Honestly i feel like this could work as a conceptual piece but not really a dance tune.

Ocelot's revolver- Thanks for the feedback, I think I'm pretty much fed up with that song though and probably won't be messing with it again, II used to produce a loooot, but I've been out for a while and now I'm coming back to production as more of a creative outlet than a professional endeavor, so I'm content with releasing conceptual clip tracks.
Your track is not something I would normally listen to but it is really good, It's quiet, or I'm deaf, but everything is mixed proper, I don't really have too much critique for that

Jock MC. Unfortunately your track isn't up or showing. but I totally agree, I threw that together pretty quickly and I generally don't fuss about whether something would be good on a dancefloor anymore. All around good advice guys.

I really like this.
The main synth is lovely.
The snare in the bit around 1:00 could be louder and snappier.
Its got a really nice flow to it, and some of the kick sounds are sweet.
It could maybe hit another level close to the end, instead of just stopping.

@JockMCPlop intro is so smooth! I think the kick could have more weight and the risers you use don't really fit in well in my opinion. Overall, really good work. I'd make the sub fatter and also add some more textures and variation in production. The vocals really sit well in the mix though dude, nice work! Really digging the perc bit at around 2.55

@Kes-Es intro immediately made me think this was gonna be a crazy deep house track, haha. The drop is pretty dope, but I during the buildup, I'd work on EQing the drums a bit because they really punch through a little too roughly. It's definitely different, keep producing more and more tracks.

@Ocelots Revolver Sounds pretty good, but the drums (especially the snare) need more weight to come through properly imo. I feel like this is a bit too progressive for what I think you're trying to achieve (hope that makes sense). You should add more variation in the drop itself, the breakdowns, and buildups are pretty unique and I think they work pretty well. If this were my track, I'd definitely try to find some kind of VOX/vocals to throw in there, it sounds really good man. If you don't wanna make a hard-hitting drum and bass tune, and are actually going for a more mellow vibe, then i'd change the kick a bit. Overall, really good work. I enjoyed the song from beginning to end.

@ kes es- Really interesting stuff man, I like it a lot. The snares could be a bit louder and more punchy in the mix. Also, rolling some of the high end off some stuff maybe.

@ jockmcplop- really chill stuff, I was vibin' on it pretty hard. Idk if you have those main sounds sidechained to the kick or not, it doesn't sound like it to me, but if you do maybe sidechain them a little harder. Those snaps are nice, but I was waiting for a heftier snare and some busier hats to come in to the tune.

Excuse this mix, I just moved into a new house and the room I'm in is shit, and to top it off my cans just quit on me. I don't like trap, and I wouldn't call this trap, but it's around 140 with some 808 sounds.

Zaksperaw- this melody is so sick, I'm digging the drums, this is pretty cool dude, I would layer the singing with another higher pitched version of the same thing. This is too good though, I really have no critique, I'm listening on crappy headphones. Keep it up.

Dotcurrency, this isn't really something I really vibe with but it is very good, I like the vocal processing and I can't hear any immediate mix issues, possibly due to my lack of quality listening equipment, alas, all I can say is that I couldn't have done better myself.

Here's this, I'm not even really sure what I'm making anymore. I like this, though.

Kes-Es, I like the arrangement in your song, bass hits in the right parts. I would say that it would be good if you made it long. 2 mins onwards has a lot of potential in my opinion.

What's good DSF, first post in a VERY long time here. Made a new profile and everything.

@dotcurrency I've been really digging disco type stuff like this these days. Your song is really catchy, drums are nice and snappy, bass line is solid. I also really like the vocal manipulations (like the pitched down layer at 3ish minutes and the bubbly sort of effect going on), kind of reminds me of Bondax, which is a very good thing. No complaints here, honestly. Nice work!

@zosomagik Intriguing concept. If I had to label this track I'd put it under future R&B (like The Weeknd, Shlohmo, etc.) Genres aside, very cool start. I'd like to hear some more variety in the percussion. Overall the mix really isn't half bad for a new room and no headphones. Personally I'd like give the clap a little more high end, but maybe you're going for a little more of a muffled/dark vibe? Both approaches have their own effect on the mood. Really cool though, can't wait to hear more.

@Kes-Es A little bare bones for me, but as far as hyphy trap records go this does the trick. I think your clap is a little forward in the mix. I'd like to hear it turned down a hair and maybe with another layer added to it for some variety instead of just a straight up 808 clap. On the flip side I think the little kicks underneath the fat bass you've got going could be brought out a lot. I think that if you turned them up a touch, added a bit of saturation and compression for a bit of punch it could really give the song a lot more motion. Solid start though! I'd get down to that ish.


Here's a snippet I've been piecing together today. This is some of the first music I've posted anywhere in a couple years or so. Lately I've been totally obsessed with LA style beat music stuff, particularly Lapalux, FlyLo, etc. That whole scene has some of the most intensely creative minds in electronic music IMO. This track is pretty heavily influenced by that sort of stuff. I'm interested to hear what DSF thinks of this type of sound I've been working on. Thoughts? My ADD and OCD-like tendencies tend to make my music a bit maximalist otherwise I get bored, so let me know if there is too much going on haha

The above three are all super impressive. The soundcloud player is being shitty and I can't play any of the others at this time. You've all outdone yourselves in comparison to when I was active on here. I have a lot of catching up to do.

Kes-Es - This is pretty cool but strange as fuck. Unique anyway, very tight. For feedback, try having the "drop" less cluttered in the beginning and add more stuff in as it progresses, gets cluttered otherwise.

zosomagic - I love this tbh, nice vocals and pads, killer vibe! I'd lower the hat a bit but I guess thats each to their own. Its very very nice all and all

GunnarHansen - Wow, this is fantastic. I gave positive feedback to both of the above but this is on a new level, unique as fuck, insane. Can not give any feedback at all, dunno what to say. Keep doing this!

the melody on that lil synth in the back that comes in. its a really mid synth it delays a bit on straight 4x4, i hope u know what im talking about.. i would rework that melody or make it less midy i think its too heavy in the mix, when it leaves the mix is clean n smooth n sleek, nice work!
