Denigrating people from a foreign country or on the basis of race (including one's own race) = racism.

You people really need to separate nationalism from racism. They are not the same. Especially in a multicultural society.
Yeah this. But then nationalism leads to xenophobia and then the usual hate towards people that are different. Standing in the way of harmony an' all. :|
Nationalism doesn't necessarily have to lead to xenophobia. It's sad that it often does, but it's actually just being proud of one's country. It should, in theory, be similar to being proud of one's house. That shouldn't automatically translate to hating one's neighbours. But, increasingly, it does as people become more self-centred.

I was in Britain during one St.Georges Day
and I thought the occasional English flag flying was quaint
(although possibly provocative in Kernow)
Like, when else does it ever get flown?
At least you don't get drunken louts using it as a cape to get in the face of migrants.

I'm not into flags but it's not a big deal.

I saw plenty of Jamaican flags around during the '98 world cup and Brazilian ones usually appear every four years.

Now I've moved to the suburbs I see a few too many St George's flags about (especially massive ones on people's houses). It doesn't bother me but it looks shite.

Anyone see question time last night? Last question was should the England flag be flown above 10 Downing Street during the World Cup; there was a unanimous yes.

There was a lot of talk about 'reclamation of the National flag' from 'far right groups and football hooligans' to 'restore Patriotism', and banter surrounding this issue of offense to other British nations...if they had qualified.

Actually, I don't think the English flag should fly outside Downing Street.

Not because of offence to the Welsh, Irish or Scots [Cornwall is not a nation], but because I'm a political pedant.

Either the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is an indivisible, unitary Kingdom or it isn't. Such displays of quasi-federalism are at best uncomforting, at worst disgusting.

Haha would you prefer the flag of St Piran over Downing Street?? That is a bad boy flag.

I am unsure whether it should be flown over Downing Street, after all it is the British Government. I'm pretty sure if England hadn't qualified and, for example, Scotland had, the Scottish flag wouldn't be considered for the roofs of Downing Street!

But it would be over Hollyrood

Yes but Hollyrood is the seat of the Scottish administration.

Downing Street is not the home of a fictional English legislature.
