Case came in so made a start with mounting. PSU tested and working.

Vero is so much harder to debug than pcbs and i kind of made it up as i went along so prob loads of mistakes.

True about vero and debugging. I try to stick to PCBs as much as possible. The PSU I made for the calrec is just 7 components, but took quite some time to figure out the best component placement and to solder the traces with wire/resistor legs. Triple check everything and solder once worked for me.

Just found out 1 Wima cap will be on backorder till september, wtf, totally bummed...

what value? if ive got one ill send you one.

Ordering components is a bastard, and i always forget at least one thing. Then you either pay a fortune on shipping, or wait til ages.

ive actually got a new phone too so can take a photo or two of my backlog....

Cool thanks mate, it's a MKS4 0,068uF/68nF 63V with either 7,5mm or 10mm leg spacing. 5mm might work too, but might be a bit fiddly.

Hoping to get some metal work done today, if not then sunday.

Did the backpanel today. Metal work took me like half day. Holes for the xlr connectors are 23mm in diameter, biggest drill I had was 10mm. Got the extra 13mm with a file tool (most time consuming and most boring and irritating part). Scratched the panel a few times around the IEC connector during this, but fixed it a bit with a black marker Relieved the metal work is done. I hate metal work

PS: Paradigm, I won't be needing the wima cap. Got a mail from the supplier that the missing wima cap is on the way, should arrive next week. Not sure where they pulled it from, but happy I don't have to wait till september. Much thanks for looking out though

Ive got a dremel, but it does make it very easy to scratch.

Well, its been unbearably hot this weekend, and my wife went away, so i was camping with my son in the back garden, so didnt get much done again! I did manage to fix my Blofeld tho, when he had a nap, which ive been meaning to do for ages.

I got a dremel too, and it's indeed very easy to scratch your panel.

I was actually looking at stepped drills, but they are rather expensive in comparison to normal drills. They start at €30 from what I've seen. Might take the plunge for the next build as they will save alot of time and hassle.

Hot here as well, had to take a lot of breaks. Glad I got it done.

The GSSL compressor a few pages back was sort of my first real build. Before this I've only build a few mics which dont compare in size of this project. I didn't have any prior experience or education in electronics, but found the GSSL very straight forward. It's a well documented project (groupdiy.com) and it basically comes down to stuffing the right component through the right holes on the PCB which shows the component placement. Then wiring the power, audio and other connections and housing it. Obviously you'll need to be able to solder decently which isn't hard at all imo.

It's a good idea to start DIY with a full kit, so you don't have to source the parts yourself. Kinda hard to recommend a project without info on what you'd like to build. Groupdiy is a good place for recording, mixing and mastering gear, lots of adaptations/clones of high-end gear. Muffwiggler is great for (modular) synths, creative effects and other bits.

Disclaimer: DIY is very addicting, and not as cheap as one might think. It can get expesive especially if you want your gear to look good too.

Yay, well i just finished this thing, calibrated it, i think, and starting to get my head round it, its incredible!

now i know its working were going to stain the box, and 'label' it, somehow. just bought another couple of pcbs to make some more

finished a few other things, modded analogue delay, soem modular stuff, also recapped a ton of old effects units etc, amazing difference. also fixed shruthi and doing some mods. slowly.

Its not too bad, but i am going to put a lyer of aluminium tape on the insides. Its pretty quiet as it is, for a grungy delay.

Nearly, finally, nearly, got my liquid hihat, above, finished. But putting it togerther for the 'last' time, i seem to have pulled a wire out

So inside i go again. Recently discovered the benefits of hot glueing everyfuckingthing down.
