what is exactly brostep? i feel like we all have different definitions. for instance, i would NOT consider anything on rottun recordings to be brostep. to me, brostep is like halfway jump-up halfway filth, like it's all light-hearted like "yaay dooood so filth brah!!" that includes cheesy vocal samples (sometimes rap, sometimes just retarded joke samples) right before a drop of FM screaming and "1...3...1...3" drums.

To be honest, I was initially hesitant about joining this forum because of the way you guys bash on brostep. But after some contemplation, I've realized that the dubstep I'm most into isn't that typical, mainstream brostep sound, nor is it necessarily that classic deep dubby sound. What I mean by this, is that I recognize why so many people hate on that super filthy, disgusting brostep. It's loud and noisy for the sake of being loud and noisy, and, while that may be fun for a little while, there's really nothing for you to truly appreciate and sink your teeth into. What I do like, however, is some unique, creative, bouncy, robot noises to groove too. By this I refer to classic style Datsik tunes like Gizmo and Apples that play with a funky wobble bass in a tasteful and danceable way, which is much different from those obliteratingly heavy brostep bangers that come out of producers like Skrillex and Borgore.

Yes.
'Brostep' or whatever else is deemed 'trashy', to me, is stuff like Dodge & Fuski, 99% of Play Me tunes, Calvertron and those other House producers that jumped on the filth wagon. I'm on the fence about whether Skrillex belongs in there because he seems to be respected by the artists I like. Also on the fence about the Circus crew, for the same reason.

Anyways the best thing is not to be a hater and just listen to what you like.

People on here don't bitch about Coki because he is part of DMZ and that would be like raping the virgin mary for the deeper crew. That's what a lot of this comes down to, hypocritical elitism. One person is ok because these other artists i like say he's ok but because this other artist has no endorsement I'll happily hate on them. It's pathetic and it pretty much only exists on the internet. The people I see in reality that act in a similar way are the ones that rarely go out, rarely finish tunes because their ego won't allow them to and generally moan about most aspects of life. Telling everyone how it should be done while others are actually doing it and not just talking about it.


Artists like SHY lead the way in being open minded to everything because he genuinely loves the music that much, and he's been around longer than most. That's what dubstep was originally about, an open minded approach to bass music and the main factor in that changing here is the general attitude of the anti hype crew on this forum.

That isn't true actually because there are producers like Flux Pavillion, FuntCase & Doctor P (who the deeper heads are not fans of), that are getting a lot of support from big DJ's in the scene like Skream & Benga, N-Type, Hatcha, Plastician and so on.

And are you saying that the only reason that people support Coki is because he is part of DMZ, meaning that Coki's production is on par with say Chripsy and Mt. Eden?!

Your proving my point with all the name dropping. If that's how you shape your taste in music then more power to you.

I have no opinion on Coki vs Mt Eden, I don't play either of their tunes really, if something comes along that I'm into I will though.

I have mad respect for Coki for his role in things but I'm not the biggest fan of his tunes, I rarely talk about it because there's rarely a reason to.

I get sent more quality tunes than I can actually play atm, from all sides of the scene, I appreciate all sides it's what makes the whole.
