That quote about getting into house around 21 - 23 is almost eerily true for me as well. I was always well into dubstep and went to a fair few nights in Leeds, while my mates were into drum and bass, trance, metal and various other things. Around 2009 I moved in with people who DJ'ed house, a few years down the line there's now a group of like 20 of us, none of which have listened to house longer than 3 years, who all go to the same nights, monocult in Leeds or krankbrother in London and whatnot. It all seemed to happen really naturally, not just with us though but with other groups as well. Maybe this was catalysed by the general decline of traditional dubstep, and diversification of most producers into a garage/housier sound? i.e. Scuba
It's true what people have said on here that you get a lot of muscly fake-tanned types, and chavvy Essex girls at night's like Creche, but it's just a totally different culture than dubstep was to be honest and the whole I'd say people just pay more attention to what they wear. Also no one smokes weed, it's pretty much all mdma with a bit of ket thrown in (not really for me these days). One thing I will say is that there generally seems to be a higher percentage of people at raves who actually know about the music or who they were going to see than my experiences in dubstep/drum and bass. Everyone's actually pretty knowledgeable.
Anyway here's some tunes
