Exactly.

do you.
a producer putting up a song for sale, and me buying it = permission.
open up yer minds, you are just limiting your own experience/enjoyment.
all tools are just extensions of us, its about the music and the dance, everything else is dumb. oh and respect. thats not dumb.
should should should dubstep fascism !! lol
spread love.

I think 90% of this thread is completely off topic.
dude is pissed off that other guys in his town are getting bookings even though they play stuff that's stolen. he wants to know what he can do about that.
this has nothing to do with vinyl vs mp3s or p2p.
it's about HACKS getting booked. its about people who aren't willing to sacrifice even a few bucks to buy tunes. and it's about promoters not giving two shits about djs they've booked playing tunes they have no rights too.
i've seen it happen too and it's really annoying and insulting to the rest of the djs out there that work there asses off to buy tunes. to properly give artists what they deserve, not to rip them off for their own benefit. it shows a total lack of respect and dedication to do something like that. and i really can't see how someone could even argue against that or for those that do dj that way.

There is only one thing you can do really and thats to slate off that person and make everyone aware. But most people who book these people are probably really only in it for the money anyways.

Well I take a portion of it back. Its not like these promoters are doing it because they love dubstep..especially the nights that pop up out of nowhere and die after 1 or 2 events.

play stuff he ASSUMES is stolen.
i rename every single file that comes into my possession. and change the id3's all to fit into my system of organizing. if i was to download a illegal 320, it would look & sound exactly the same as if i bought it from digital-tunes.
should i worry about being called a theif when i rock my DMZ's that arent on Bleep with my serato? do i gotta bring the records to prove i ripped them myself?
how does some next man know who im tight with and who serves me tunes? MAYBE that dub is legit....
and maybe i been rockin it on dub since before it came out on vinyl...
imho, this thread is 100% on topic. the HACK dj is the one who doesnt understand the tools and how things work. encouraging people to scoff at a DJ on serato is just as ridiculous as pirates who dont pay for anything..
one time i was sitting at a undisclosed venue drinking with a undisclosed famous D&B DJ, discussing the merits of serato, cause it was early in the serato stages and the DJ playin was on it... DJ dropped a tune and both me and undisclosed famous dude were like ooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh naughty naughty, that shit isnt out yet, no WAY he got that legit. so i went home that night and found the tune had gone up for sale on D&B Arena the day before. i felt stupid. its the ass part of assume.
please read the original post again, and his subsequent replies. at no point was there any proof the djs were playin illegal stuff, the djs werent even dubstep djs, and dude didnt even talk to them about his concerns, OR the promoter, he simply came on here bitchin about serato.

more asssssume. is it because they have a low post count that they dont 'love' dubstep? lolz.
lets the fruits do the talking... meaning, if a DJ sounds like SHIT cause they are playing 128kbps myspace rips, let them sound like shit, ask them whats up with that after they set, and see if the promoter is on the level... anywhere worth playing, that shit isnt gonna fly..
just cause somebody is on serato doesnt mean anything in and of itself.

and all that gets back to the point I was making earlier.
I have tons of legit digital tunes. Should my sets be viewed as suspect simply because I am playing digital media?

thing is if you are a shit producer or dj you are not going to get very far are you?? people that do this are screwing themselves over .....
its a shame for some of the people that do top draw stuff with ableton / serato , as there is , in my belief a somewhat correct belief, that most laptop djs are utter shit. its cringeworthy when people use ableton and barely mix between tunes, let alone do more interesting stuff offered up by using a laptp.

Watching a laptop DJ do boring and thoughtless mixes is exactly the same as watching a vinyl DJ to exactly the same. The same as it to watch a inspiring, interesting mix by either party. What's the difference? getting 2 slabs of vinyl moving at the same speed and time? lame.

this is exactly what was wrong with this thread from the very first post on, why it is and was counterproductive and downright defaming to some VERY highly respected artists in this scene and electronic music in general.

no receipts necessary!! none of us are beyond reproach, but last i checked we are all innocent until proven guilty, not the other way around! how do you know those white labels are legit and not dubs stolen and then cut to plate? this does happen btw... so yea, once again, the real danger of this thread is that newcomers might think 'serato is bad', or 'cds are bad'.... in general. and to accept such a crude generalization as truth would be nothing short of ignorant.

!!!!!!!!!!!
and for balance sake tho, if you are a DJ who only plays vinyl, or only cuts dubs, because thats how YOU like to do it, more power to you!!!!!!
or for the labels who release only vinyl, because thats how they like to showcase their sound, respect!!!! do your thing....
for arguments sake, who is worse....
the guy who buys multiple copies of everything so that once the release is unavailable he can put one up on ebay for like 50$... and never plays out, or radio or nothin... just earns $ off small pressings & demand... (cause you KNOW this happens... ALOT)
or the kid that illegally downloads that same tune, plays it out at a bunch of gigs where he just gets drink tickets & gas money, and converts X amount of people in god knows where to the sound?
imho, its all such a grey area that to have any black & white opinions is premature... lets evolve..
*edit* and not for nothin. ive had the dude AT the cutting spot sneakily jack my cd of my tunes that i brought to be cut, cut it for himself, and play it at a gig in my face without my permission.
we are still not cool.

I'm going to be careful about how I phrase what i am going to say so i don't come off condescending or pretentious.
F*ck Serato and f*ck any dj that uses it to bring stolen music to the club for a gig.

so to illustrate your point, how much do you spend on vinyl? how much do spend on cover charges & drinks? how much do you spend traveling to spots & gigs?
have you ever had to take the subway @ 430 AM with CRATES of records??
have you ever been on the road playing gigs for weeks on end?
i have back pains my dude lol... and sink every penny that comes my way into this music thing.
and fuckin love my serato.
