thank god finally someone explained it for me...

oh wait...

you haven't
duuude where have u been?
; )
look it up on blackdown's blog

I'm aware it is 4/4 house and it is 'funky' sounding

It just seems to be a term deemed fit for any 4/4 house I think is shit...

I wondered if there is a pure underground form that isn't shit...is the good stuff what geeneus has at the end of his rinse cd?

it has to be said that much of what i've heard so far from these sets sounds a lot like nyc house from the late 80's. obviously the bpm's in funky are a bit faster but the arrangement and structure (using one main loop and then alternating it (dropping it in and out)) is getting really close to it.
here's some examples of what i'm talking about. these tunes are nearly 20 years old now.

soho "hot music" from 1990.

bobby konders "nervous house" 1990

this whole sound was really pushed in new york by two labels, nu groove and kool groove. both worth checking out as there's some real classics.

i'm interested to hear more of kode's stuff and donaeo too.

Soul Jazz have got vinyl reissues of the two Network Nu Groove comps, the green one with John McCready's sleevenotes and the maroon one, at the moment. C.L.A.S.S.I.C.

the person behind soho -hotmusic- is joe longo aka paljoey.
http://www.discogs.com/artist/Soho

he's a nyc dance legend. he's remixed all kinds of music, but he's known for -hot music-. if you like that kind of vibe, you can buy mp3's directly from his website. click on these links for clips. all this stuff is from the late 80's early 90's, when house was massive in new york.

tunes like -love-,-fuckin with me-, -rat race- are new york classics.
