Oh I get it! Still, reapers interface reminds me too much of acid 7...ugh!

Users have both the option to load different themes or to customise the interface how they want via imported graphics and the colour chooser options. Check out the stash for other Reaper themes, some of which even look like competing DAWs

And if the tool bars and menus aren't to a users liking, they can be changed too. Check out the Reaper thread here on DSF for some tips on customising Reaper.

i downloaded it, how do i actually open the software. all i have is a bunch of files. sorry, im a noob.

This looks really good for people who cant spend on music software and/or want to make music away from home, but its not for me.

Im an FL guy and I won't need this because FL's goin mobile for iPods, iPhones, and iPads!

Edit: so apparently you gotta extract everything in the zip, then youll have folders named "AudacityPortable" and "Reaper 3"
In Audacity folder, theres AudacityPortable.exe
In Reaper folder, theres reaper.exe
only works on windows btw

Reaper does have a mac osx version you can download. From there you'll need to find AU's to go with it.

apple can use vst's, logic just can't

I am having a bit of trouble with the arachnid drum sampler. ill click the folder icon to choose a sample, but there are none to be found? Anyone else have this problem or am i doing something wrong?

Would reaper be a lot less CPU hungry than Ableton?

Going travelling and toying with the idea of taking a mini-laptop like this one

Reckon it would have a hard time running ableton for production so wondering if Reaper might be the answer

As far as I know Reaper is a lot less CPU Hungry yes

It can be installed on a usb.
Very light.
It`s lighter than Cubase, Reaper, And FL.
I`ve compared the 4.

Most vsts load faster via Reaper as well.

Have you even seen how much Reaper is used now?
It`s not just a passing option anymore.
I rank it waaaay higher than FL for professional producing.

I used to produce on Cubase.
I prefer Reaper to Cubase so it must have some bearing?
I`d say if anything the plugins included are for people who can`t afford music software but that doesn`t mean they are any less capable than the pay options.

Just a side note

I have a couple friends that are in bands, guitarists, drummers, etc.
Some of them are pro producers while others are just bedroom recorders.
Play some awesome riff and just record.

The bedroom recorder isn`t concerned about anything but sound quality.
Naturally he has been using Cubase for some time.
I went over to his place with the portable Music Studio just to give him a feel for Reaper.
He stated hands down that the sound quality and recording quality was higher on Reaper than on Cubase.
sure that is purely subjective but he was a die hard Cubase guy who very quickly liked Reaper.

In short, don`t bash it before you try it.
The media explorer alone is enough for me to use it.

Last side note.

I can afford to buy software.
Why do I use Reaper? or the portable studio?
It`s an informed choice.

I wasn't putting it off as a "passing option" . notice how I called it "really good" . and I wasn't just talking about reaper when I said that, I was referring to the whole package. And I realize that reaper is pretty amazing, and should be considered just as pro as the other big daws. and I don't rank either one higher, its all about preference...and I'm an FL guy so I like FL
