well that's not so bad... did he tell this dude over youtube he was gonna collab?Lichee wrote:
sorry to hammer home the Zomby is a thief thing but Zomby is a thief
anyone who has been following zomby for more than a year know that his stories are bs, he's just trying to create a mythos. plus i wasn't comparing what zomby did with how dilla does stuff, i was just saying that a majority of dillas best work is just collections of loops, beats and all. sure zomby did a fucked up thing, but to pretend that he isn't creative because of it is just silliness.garethom wrote:Feel it's a bit pointless to carry this on, but again, this isn't a sampling issue. This is an issue with him initiating contact with a guy under the guise of a collaboration, looping the guys work 4 times, cutting out one vocal snippet, and putting it out under your own name with no intention of giving him any credit. SURELY you can see the difference between that and sampling? If Dilla said he wanted to collaborate with someone, let them do 95% of the work and then put it out solely under his name, I'd have an issue with that too.Soiree wrote:I love conversations about copyright, and sampling infringement.
It's funny to see a guy who's got like thousands of tunes and one tiny vocal stab repeated thought one song and... POOF all credibility out the window. That just doesn't make any sense, I'm sure with Zombys work flow there isn't really any way to regulate what he choses to sample, and I would hate to see an artist like him confined into the rules of copyright. What I like about sample based music is the fact that it's illegal. There's a sense of bent time in a sample, and yes Dilla is great and knew this fact true. Then again if that Russian singer has brothers in the Mafia and as she put "Want's the money" I'm sure Mr. Zomby could buy em off in one show.
I guess for a lot of people, his credibility has took a hit because of the issue I mentioned above, and all the shit about "I wrote that tune for Burial", and the probably made up shit about "I almost got shot over that sample in Moscow". Not only did he screw Reark over, he made up all that bullshit to go along with it.
If you like Zomby, then fair enough, carry on liking him, I like some of his tunes too, but don't try and compare what he did with Natalia's Song to Dilla.
Note to Zomby, please release a 12" with Velodrome on it (or can the producer who actually made it put it on soundcloud)
Of course not, hence why I never said it. It disappointed me more because I know he is capable of some absolutely sick tunes, I feel like he didn't need to resort to that, and if Reark can come up with something like that, imagine what they could've created if they actually did collaborate. There's no need for him to jack tunes. So what if he didn't release Natalia's Song, thing of all the other quality stuff he has unreleased he could've put out. I know it's not part of his act, but his complete lack of humility over the issue was just embarassing, made his previously laughable character just cringeworthy. It's kind of like, if he had release it as Zomby & Reark, would anybody have thought any less of him? Not at all. I assume some people (me included) are pissed off over the situation, because if it happened to any of us, it'd be fully shit.fractal wrote:

is everyone ok yet? can we move on? or are we all still hungry for more internet drama over something y'all know almost nothing about?
no wonder it's shit, some of Zomby's tunes sound like a bit of a joke, some of them are fucking amazing don't get me wrong, but most he gets by purely on his name, even though that doesn't really count for much nowrayman612 wrote:wasn't there some interview online where he said he wrote Kaliko in like 10 minutes or something...
does that mean it took him 8 minutes to find a youtube vid and then 2 minutes to put a hihat line over it![]()

^ that right there should tell you how little of the story y'all really know. zomby isn't gonna respond to a bunch of internet warriors who get all righteous but know fuck all in reality. they can sit on their comps and be mad, but the world keeps turninggarethom wrote:Of course not, hence why I never said it. Well maybe so, but you can't really expect us to know, can you? Not if no1 tells us. So maybe it would be best if you could just shed some light on this matter (if you really do know more than us that is) so that we can stop this pointless discussion.fractal wrote: ^ that right there should tell you how little of the story y'all really know.
