My lifeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Well, they're doing major works on the train station what i'd get usually connect from which would make it about an hour or so till end of Summer I believe.

So instead I have to go to from South to East to Central back down to South cause where I am in South don't connect to that side other than by road but no bus links and its all congested as fuck roads.

Absolute nightmare!

Even if I drove it'll take an hour and a half due to it being the most congested roads in LDN haha.

wahh :corncry:

^ bad times hope u get everything sorted!

I'm thinking about getting a new interface that isn't shit (probs focusrite) then I'm going to buy one of these : http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/161629566895?nav=SEARCH

If this link doesn't work its an ART Pro VLA II. Optical two channel compressor for under two hundred quid. Got rave reviews and its apparently great on master buss as well as vox drums bass etc. Anyone had one? Have I asked this question before?
What is the meaning of life?

Unsurprisingly, I had one. I think it is a good unit. Transparent, maybe not exciting. The pre that goes with this is also pretty good, and something I still have. I'd still have the comp, but for economic difficulties.

Why you need hardware compressor? What are you going to do with it?

Mainly bus compression. At the mixdown stage like bouncing all pads, all drums, all basses etc thru it to glue together. Cos reason has a shit compresser. Plus I really prefer the hands on knobs ;) experience.

I want to get a few different things so everything doesn't sound exactly the same. Maybe I should get some pedals, I already have a few tho

In that price range I'd also consider the FMC Really Nice Leveling Amp, it has a bit of character. I've heard it is kinda "gooey" so good for bus compression. I don't believe in "analog magic" per se...but I think there is something to getting some of your sounds out of the box and into the real world. I don't remember the guy's name, but there was a Red Bull Music Academy interview with someone who says something akin to this.

I've been sending my buses to my mixer and doing a little EQ and level pushing there as well as using my hardware compressors. It sounds different than doing it all in the box. I usually do four stereo tracks to my mixer...then I've got two aux sends with a stereo return each and an insert on each channel and a 2bus insert.

I think its just a different sound not better when using outboard gear. Which is what I need, more variation.

Edit

I always hit the post button too quick.

I heard that is a good comp for cheap but has unbalanced ins and outs? This puts me off sightly haha

Yea. Exactly, different not better. Best way to put it.

Only the inputs are unbalanced. You'd probably be running really short cables right? Personally I don't think it'll make a ton of difference. I think a little noise is good though. It acts like glue too : )

Ahh that's probably fine :). Yea it would literally just be out then in to my interface. Coming out of the leftover outputs and into in 1,2 so I can put something thru it any time

Get out your umbrella because I'm going to try and piss all over your gearlust.

For your stated purpose, I don't think you should buy hardware. In my experience, and it is just mine, but taking loops out through the audio i/o through hardware, and back into the audio i/o is just not efficient, not fun, not fast, doesn't sound the best, is unpredictable, and on and on.

Let me tell you what I've found the hardware good for: for working outside the box, then taking it in. In this situation a good pre, comp, eq can be really nice. Just get the sound all trimmed up and hardware vibed and THEN take it into the box where it can be worked with.

Imo, if you care about sound, and are doing things for sound, you've got to have really high quality DA AND AD to warrant two layers of conversion.

Latency going out, coming in is an annoying bitch, and if you get jitter, you're fuuuuuucked.

Doesn't Reason have some plugin format now? Can't you get a good comp now?

And now to restate: If you have a hardware synth or sampler, or are recording audio, having some sound processing makes sense. You can put extra layers of audio voodoo sauce on your sounds, and I promise, I absolutely promise, your songs will sound a little different than all itb songs.

You can do hardware wrong, and in doing so, miss the ways to do hardware right.

These are my thoughts at least. I wish you the best. Don't spend too much time on sounds, your beats are already sounding great, and more importantly are inventive and interesting. I'd just like to hear more from you. I don't want anything coming along slowing you down.

Oh shit, one last thing, check out Warm Audio at http://www.warmaudio.com/ for something that actually adds excitement, something that is really worth the trip out and in. Never used it, don't know what the reviews say at all, but have heard several demos that promptly removed my socks. Seriously. And very very affordable for what you get.

Anybody ever have issues with ebay and time?

I recently crossed some time zones, and ebay is all jacked up now. I'm watching an auction that ends in and hour and twenty minutes and ebay says the auction ends in a few minutes ago.

Like what the fuck?
