Any tips on cleaning up a growl/making it less muddy?

I can get a pretty good variety of good sounding growls out of massive, but they end up sounding muddy and I can't mix them that well. I've tried EQing them to be less muddy but have found that I end up losing a lot of the talking/vocally quality of them by doing that.

FX chain tips? Where to distort/compress? thanks.

Here is the growl alone^

And now in context.^

Yes, I am using a lot of wow filter, I honestly like it and it gets the job done. eq automation always ends up an absolute mess for me, ableton's eq8 just not good for this?

FX chain looks kinda like this: EQ->Multiband/distort-highs/compress-mids->MidsideEQ->sausagefattener(slight)->EQ8->WOWfilter->compressor

Any tips would be appreciated!

Wow filter is fine, it's just that you have a bit more control over the vowels using an EQ. Also EQ8 is great for eq automation! I use FL studio and the tutorial i watched on eq automation was using EQ8 in ableton. Check the growl I posted on the page right before this.

And from the sounds of it, sounds like you took out too much of the mids. I made my growl in massive with tons of FX and eq automation but I didn't split frequencies.

I just get lost trying to set up an EQ8 automation for vowels, tips?

When you say mids, can you specify some frequencies/ranges? Mids seems so broad when I try to boost them or bring them back it gets even muddier if not very shrill and harsh.

I can't help you with ableton set up, but as far as the EQ goes: http://puu.sh/3l8p3/629a167b48.jpg
I'm automating the movement of band 3 & 4 in the EQ on the left then 4 & 5 on the EQ on the right.

Left EQ is for lower vowel formants and right eq is for the higher vowel formants
band 4 moves very slightly in both.

I'd say the lower-mids; like 250-1.2k? Thats where most of my vowel EQs are moving.

I'm also very proud to say I did all my EQ automation using one single automation clip and some very clever mathematical input mapping formulas. :6:

Thoughts? I can upload patches but there's a heap of fx morphing that sound there.

Son, this is real xKore's shit.

You could make a nice house tune in the vein of old Justice with just those first two hits dotcurrency.

I bet it's you xKore.

Or you've just redone xKore's patch from his livestream. 'nuff said.

It's called reverse engineering and synthesizing skills. And from your message with word ''just'' i suppose you could recreate it in minutes with very little effort.. :)

No, I said "just" because he shows his presets there. Kinda blurry but you can still see it.
If you recreated it all by ear then you're amazing. Teach us!

Well, he shows only main things but not modulation tab, voicing tab, eq, ect, that's why no one can recreate this sound and ends up with weird ass results.

Some experimenting and it's not too hard. just takes a bit of patience

No offense but it sounds so random and banal. No structure at all, muddyness in almost every sound, not fitting random and barely changed or processed patches and samples from original songs and it just sound like a big mess of basses and sounds. People want to hear music not only 101 slapped basses and lazers. And you`re barely developing in every aspect of production: same sounds and samples that was uploaded by someone long time ago... :?

Come up with something original, because copying xKore's bass sound will get you no where. Sound design is not about re-creating sounds. It's about creating sounds.

copied his sound even down to the vocal cuts.. what happened with originality and further developing patches that were made after x producer's sound????????
