So I've decided that the kind of dubstep I like is the heavy, heavy stuff... Fuck Skrillex and his "dubstep." I love the stuff like Trolley Snatcher's-Break Your Neck, or Screaming Fukkface by Itchy Robot... That's some amazing, bass heavy, slap-you-in-your-face-with-its-dick music. And I love it.

So heres some questions... How do you come about "designing your drops?" Do you just put a bunch of fat-ass bass noises together and hope they sound dirty and gritty enough? Do you actually plan it out in your head? I don't understand the concept of a drop... Not the build, the actual drop. The one that knocks you on your ass.

In all of the half-assed "Dubstep" I've ever attempted to produce, the worst part is always the drop. I don't know how to make it sound so awesome like a professional. I know it takes a lot of time and practice, but some tips would help.

I have Ableton Live Intro, which really limits me on the amount of stuff I can do (I need to upgrade, just haven't got around to it). And I also use NI's Massive just like everyone else, but it's the only thing I've found that gets me somewhat close to the disgusting basslines.

I recently just bought FL Studio, but haven't messed around with it too much. Which would give me more parameters to work with when attempting to produce this type of music? Or does it even matter?

no it doesn't matter what daw you use, but i try to make all my bass sounds in the same general frequency area, that way they all sound fairly similar, a big part is just kinda feeling it, if your like oh it should go higher here or oh the pitch should ramp down now. its all about having a feel for it, and that comes with time and practice.
