haha that doesn't happen for the legit version so you should get another torrent or buy it . Ableton live is only like 200-300 with the student discount. I'm currently trying to leave my life or piracy behind, slowly but surely.

Just a quick question, i'm looking for a VST that i can automate the gain off. I tried utility, but i wanna be able to cut to complete silence (-infinity dB), is there a stock ableton plugin that can do that?

automate the faders or automate the device on/off

You can also chain up a couple of utility plugins in a row.

yeah, right now i just put two utilities in a row and macro them, in an effect rack thingy. Just wondered if there's something else that can do it.

I'll go over what each knob does

Fader: This knob has the same range as the volume fader in ableton (-infinity to 6db). Instead of automating the volume fader, automate this knob instead so that you can use the volume fader to scale the automation of this device when mixing. Automation from the volume fader can be copied to this because they have the same range.

Gain: up to 10 db volume increase

Pan: adjusts panorama

Width: adjusts width(useful for making things mono)

Invert Phase: inverts the phase of the left and right channel

LP and HP: these knobs are designed for easy low pass and high pass filter automation. At their current position, the filter is off, and totally transparent. As soon as you move it one value, the filter turns on and the cut off is adjusted. This is useful for doing quick filter sweeps because you can automate one knob to turn the filter on, and adjust the filter cutoff. The graphic under the title shows what the filter will look like when it is in its maximum and minimum values.

Q: adjusts resonance of HP and LP

why not use a gate, and automate the threshold?

How would that allow smooth volume automation?

Question regarding Ableton's Redux, or just bit crushers in general. By just the title 'Bitcrusher lets me know the purpose of the effect is to lower the sample rate, but what exactly does the Downsample feature do? What do the values represent?

he didnt necessarily say smooth automation, just gain on/off

i'm not sure, but i think bitcrushing is reducing the bitrate, and downsampling is reducing the sample rate.

Highlight the area and drag automation line ;-)

Oh yeah, is there anything like automation cleanup in ableton? Like when you record automation, it narrows down the points to a mere minimum. Much easier to edit a bit afterwards.

no. Watch some videos on how the pro's make quick automation curves. the draw tool is your friend, in moderation. also shift+click then drag.

i still cant get the points to snap to the grid, when i highlight an area and drag, it only drags the line (in the highlighter area) up or down, the points still freely drag wherever..

I know how to draw automation, i just find it easier to record it, and that gives me bazillion different points then :/
