If you can't have an argument on a forum, where can you have one?
I think it's important to challenge peoples preconceptions and beliefs regarding notions like the one printed on that t-shirt. I don't see them as light jokes, I see them as a small, snobbish prejudice that hinders progress and creativity of our dance music scene.
For the record I enjoy using 1210s and have done for the past decade, but I was completely sold the first time I laid my hands on a CDJ1000 mk3. Most clubs have both and you can flip between them if you can operate a mixer. I think Abelton is a fantastic tool and the same with Serato and many of the DJs I have seen on them have developed their own unique style, all to the benefit of dance music. CDJs are empowering, dubplates and the dubplate culture rarely is.

^what he said, especially the last part, it's such an accessible and affordable format, I cannot see the issue to with what some people have.

OK, ill admit it, i was on a rant. mainly because this guy thinks hes something special. The thing is, a few lads in my area use cdjs and as soon as i get them to have a little mix with my technics their completely baffled and cant even beatmatch a standard 140 tune. These boys think their top dogs as well and i just cannot believe it, all they do is download off p2p (and their proud of it) and press the cue buttom. Really, really frustrates me, there is absolutely no qauilty control on the amount of people in my year just thinking their musical geniuses with these cdjs around.

Are you sure they are using 'actual' CDJ's and not shabby numark? Anyone who can mix tight on Pioneer CDJ 800/1000/2000's, will 9 times out of 10 at least have a vague idea about using 1210's..

^Most of the guys I know who use pioneers, as you've mentioned, don't even know how to cue a record up...
I love the tshirt, I'm not a fan of cdj's, I don't mind switching between the 2 now and again, but doing a full set on cdj's is a peice of piss, my little brother can do it... n he can't mix 2 tracks on vinyl yet

I don't actually understand this...
If you can beat match, surely you can to do it on decks or cdj's...obviously the techniques are slightly different but come on its not fucking rocket science.
I prefer my finger on a vinyl, on a turntable, any day. Pressing a pitch bend button on a Denon just aint the same. (Although I do use 1 Cdj when I play out for tunes I cant get on Vinyl.
If you can mix on cdjs and not have a clue how to mix on proper turn tables you can fuck clean off in my opinion. Thats a bit of a joke.
I was having a chat with a mate the other day about the new cd turns that take a USB key. God forbid the day when a DJ turns up to a venue with his tunes in his fucking pocket on 2 memory sticks. Theres alot of stnuc out there that are too lazy to carry their tunes the 100 metres into a venue now. Worse still would be the geezer that turns up with a record box in each hand opens them only to be carrying a memory stick in each one. Major par.
Just like to add, drop in my opinion, drop the Run DMC rip tee shirts they've been rinsed more than fuckin Eastern Jam.

i disagree bruv... i can mix on cdjs by looking at the numbers... with 1210s you actually have to beatmatch
edit: and by the way i'm not dissing CDjs... i do a lot of my sets on em cos i can't afford to cut enough dubs... but anyone who says it isn't easyer to mix with cdjs than it is with vinyl is just wrong... (imho)

That's the thing, with cdjs its just get the numbers right and your away...not too hard. on 1210s you really need to 'feel' your way through a mix, tapping the platter, adjusting the pitch slightly now and then...takes a far more tuned ear to mix with technics. I suppose i have such a grudge because of the way, in my area, they're just a gateway for benders to start djing mt eden and cragga and suddenly think their top dogs.

i mean no offense to any quality producers..Spectrasoul use them and there's no way I'm going to dissing them anytime soon.

point taken.
i'll admit that pulling a good mix on 2 pieces of wax is way more rewarding than mixing 2 mp3's (whether you cheat by matching numbers or not)
really it's just as quick for me to beatmatch by ear on a CJD, i just cue the first beat, fiddle with the pitch slider, keep cuing the track until it starts and stays in time for about 8 bars, then adjust the rest manually as i mix it in.
but that's what i mean about them being rewarding in different ways.
it feels really dope to double drop the shit outta 4 or 5 tunes in a row on CD's with EASE as opposed to having to spend TIME just getting one mix tight.
but i do know what you mean, i hate seeing a guy up there just matching numbers instead of beats.

This is why I love using turntables, like I said previously, anyone can use cdj's, anyone... it's fuckin simple, I don't mind the converted who used to have 1210's but some people just grab some cdj's and believe they can dj which fucks me off... I've spent time, learning to cue up properly, learning to beat match, gettin stressed, buying records etc for some dreg to come along with his cdj's and youtube rips on cd and believe hes a sick dj, jog the fuck on!
But bokator, I'm able to double drop on vinyl, granted I can't just stand 2 feet away with my arms crossed and smile but It's not that difficult, and if it's tracks I know It's alot easier, double dropping on cdj's is like playing with your mates sister, it's alot more satisfying banging his mum, she's been in the industry longer, she's more technical... what I'm tryin to say is for me, using cdj's is like fuckin a teen, unexperienced bullshit, using 1210's is an art, like fuckin a mucky milf over and over...
