@blakedipp - I'd work in some more variations in the bassline, try some automation on the filters. Also try and build some suspense with the beats. Drop the hats for half a bar, move a snare, kick etc to get some variation and movement. My brain locks onto repetition pretty quickly and sometimes it's a good thing (i.e. techno), but in this case I think you need to work in more variation. re: production name, if "Second Nature" makes you happy, then take it!
@ZuentanamoC - liking the intro, and congrats on choosing some different sounds for the percussion. Like the orchestral bits too. The only criticism I'd make is there's not much "weight" in the sub area, especially as you're flipping between different synths, without there being a consistent sub-bass to tie the phrases together it drops too much.
@dramax - always a fan of the filtered low-pass perc intro, very trancy. Reminds me of earlier Beaumont Hannant from early 90's (early Warp music stuff). I like the gradual introduction of elements too, but I'd suggest you bring in a sidechained bassline around the 1:20 mark. The drop loses energy too much, you might want to work on a build there instead (unless you're going for more of a 'listening' trance/house experience).
@tomi - the constant pad's are distracting me and making it difficult to lock on one element. Interesting use of the trumpet stabs too, I applaud using something different instrumentally. My only other comment would be it doesn't develop past where it started.
@kontrol - I like the percussion work, you clearly spent some time on it. Bass isn't defined enough for, and I can see where you were headed with the clipped vocals, I think you should explore that more. Finally, your kick has a pretty major harmonic RIGHT where your bass is hitting, so they're mushing together, EQ the kick and cut out a few db around 30 - 80hz, boost a little at 100-110hz, and for your bass, notch it at 100-110hz, and roll off everything over 220hz or so. That'll give you more space to play.
*phew* worn out with that feedback

It's my first post, so hello every1!
I read DSF for very long time and now, I think, I need some help.
It's my first attempt to make a tune. There is no master or mixing thing, just a pure DAW' sound. I think it's too simple, but I thought that you'll give me some advice what I'm doing wrong at this moment! Still hope that you like it

Cheers and greets!

tomi- nice vibes pal, proper chiller tune. elements are introduced smoothly, only thing id say is your sub rhythm feels less fluid than everything else, and doesnt fit quite right either. apart from that really like it bud good job.
dramax- the intros nice, maybe eq your kick a bit but i think its just soundclouds shitty streaming haha. good buildup to the drop, i like it a lot. really nice chilled housey vibe going on after the drop pal. id say maybe look to bring in some new elements and chop and change, its slightly repetitive, mixdown seems good well done.
ZuentanamoC- The sub feels a bit light on this one for me bud, also the tunes really lacking in structure at the start. the drop needs to be a tad more defined. all the sounds are well mixed and interesting though, so good work on that man.
heres my effort, nearly there with it now, just putting in final bleeps and fx haha -

@deafblindmusic - this track kinda blows my mind. didn't expect the drop at all. my favorite part is the middle for sure. but the second drop is even better than the first. the only thing that stood out as being strange was toward the end with the drums shuffling around...i almost spilled my drink lol but this song is simply awesome.
@kontrol - the vex'd shent remix is beyond my production level. it sounds so proper all i can say is that it sounds professional, and very funky. some get down music for sure!
@t3h - this song has potential man. the samples seem to have a bit of static, an also the drop seems a bit misaligned. i'd also suggest more variation in the midrange bass it just kinda wobbles out of control an seems to go on forever..which may but what your after but i couldn't help but click through the waveform to get past it. but it does have potential as any wip, keep at it.
@nzym - teardropswip is awesome man, i really like the simplicity of the sounds. the pads are also accenting that funky bassline very well. the drum work is also proper, i like the subtle hand drum sounds. very nice track indeed. keep up the good work!
@cheeky - very dubby indeed. a bit to repetitive for my taste but it does sound good.
tryn to get this track going but its becoming frustrating to me... to many sounds that are kinda over used but i guess it still sounds okay.. maybe... i forgot to cut out the end, it sounds like a totally different song so excuse that part of it..

big big thanks to everyone who gave me some feedback on my tune, really appreciate it. i've actually never tried parallel compression before but i may give it a go on this one and see what happens, so thanks for the tip, downfall!
no new wip to post but some feedback on the last few songs i listened to here (not listening on my usual headphones so some of my comments on mixing may be wayyy off):
@cheeky - big tune! sounding good on that end for sure. my only suggestion would be to maybe add some ambience and atmosphere with some fx with lots of reverb and such to give the track a little more space, but that may be a personal preference thing. heavy track.
@t3h - honestly, if this is your first song i'd say you're definitely on the right track. my first batch of tunes sounded like stone cold shit (most of my music still does). it is a little simple, as you mentioned - i'd try playing around with adding some new elements as the track progresses, like some warped sound effects or new melodic material. but really, you've done way more right than you've done wrong. nice work!
@jimbeaux - really digging when the bass sounds like it's slowing down, very cool effect. the big swells around 1:30 are sounding good, too. overall, the bass work in this is really good with nice variety. it sounds a bit empty at the moment, though, which i think you could help by either adding more shit to it (not necessarily always the best idea) or by adding some space and atmosphere with reverb and such. very solid so far, though.

working on a tune but im kinda stuck. i just dont know where to take it post breakdown. In other tunes like this i will either get crazier/more intricate with the bass or open the melody up a little further post breakdown, but im not sure that will work.
p.s i laid the beat super repetitve and add fills and variation when tracks laid out

@Cheeky, I admittley raved to that banger you posted.
@Hero, Nice. It's getting somewhere, but change the kick to an 808? And maybe layer it.
@efence, Fucking loving it mate. Nice one.
@t3h Weird. But in that "I so just did not kill that little girl" kind of way.
Here's my one when it's done. I'm sending it off to Reboot Records.

@ mraural - I liked the feel of that. Definitely need some sub in there. Maybe more compression on the basses and some levelling? I'm guessing it's got lots of work to go? I like the reverb on the snare but the snare itself wasn't doing it for me (probably more personal preference though.)
@ efence - I'm feeling those ethereal noises. I'm feeling some chilled breakdown with deep funky sub and some nice little variations on the melody and drop the percussion a bit? Probably a bit subjective :/ I'm liking the mixing though it's all sounding big!
@ hero - I always feel if you start something you should try and finish it! Can't say I do that myself though :/ I think you've tried to put too many slightly unrelated ideas in. Maybe keep with a fewer amount of basses but add some automation and get things changing around a bit?
@ cheeky - I feel like you need to get a bit more motion in the notes. I like the automation keeping it moving but I think there needs to a be a bit more going on. Guess that's where the beeps are coming in though
Here's mine. I haven't tried any dubstep for a while! Not sure where it's going next but currently it needs lot more variations in the bass, especially in the first drop, and more attention to the percussion. I tried to do a little mastering job on it too (just a lil eq, limiting and multiband comp any opinions on that would also be smashing!!!) Thanks in advance guys and gals!

@unitedfruits heavy sub really nice but dont quite feel the snare but basswork is impressive ,nice, love the dubmelody later in the track haha
@mraural basslines grooves nice but on my headphones one hi hat seems sharp its like the open one i think
@efence why dont you keep it like that its enough for me haha nice sub nice melody perfect haha maybe some double time hi hats? and a huge snare with reverb here and there?
@ambinate loving the main melody sound so chilled could maybe add little bit more delay to it ,piano is nice little bit plaid vibe here
started a breakbeat

Lol, well surprise is a good thing innit?

As for the drum shuffles, yeah, that's kinda my "thing" on heavily percussive tracks, to keep people guessing (and also boredom on my part) - but feedback definitely noted, perhaps I'll bring in some of the shuffle elements earlier in the 2nd breakdown because it'd probably make it tougher

Liking the talkie bass and the little vocal snips. I'm missing the sub on my headphones, so you might want to look into that a bit. That super compressed snare is lovely too, I'd make more of a feature of that and bring it up in the mix just a tad - but that being said I applaud using a clap instead for the majority of the snare downbeats.

Dude, if you heard some of the stuff I wrote when I was 17 you would look like a grade A premier producer (in fact, I have some stuff I pulled off tape, I should upload it)
K onto the track, the stab sounds are good, percussion is spot on in terms of movement and general setup, the lead bass sound needs some additional chorus on it, and some other filter automation. It also sounds like you have some transients causing issues here and there (not sure if you are using compression), but honestly, don't be discouraged I think what you have in play here is a great first effort, with a little polish here and there I think you'll have a solid completed track.
You're starting from good fundamentals in my opinion.

Erm, I really like this - the only change I'd be is as you suggest on the post breakdown, open up the melody. And there's plenty of space for other elements in there still, so experiment with some other instrumentation.

deafblindmusic - great tune. i love the drop. Great job on the synth and keeping the mix clear and punchy despite being pretty busy with sounds. I would make the intro shorter.
ambinate - I am a big fan of this. I noticed that alot of producers (imo) miss the song writting/arranging aspect when they make tunes. I feel that you have a good understanding of this and it is working well for you. My only criticism with this is that im not sure if it needs to be over 5 minutes.
nzym - interesting drum programming. I feel that I started to lose interest after about the 3:30 mark.

Oh snap, I'm liking this a lot. I say continue, but add more of a breakdown (either replace the distorted vocals with a simple riff). Loving the sound design too.
This is my first real attempt at Dubstep. After 5 months, this is all I have to show for it lul
I haven't done a mixdown or added a sub, but I'd love some feedback on something :v

Thanks for the advice, will definitely take that in mind. Your track is fucking nice, but in my opinion you could use some more sound between 2:00 or something till the second drop!
