People went crazy and many ordered 2-3 copies from different stores just in case the triple pack became sold out just from pre-orders.
Following the album release people realized there are still available copies on every on-line record store, so then even more people ordered a second or third copy to be able to sell on discogs or ebay for a high price later on.
Most of them didn't open the shrink-wrap at first just to able to sell at a higher price in the future.
And here is the clever part:
Mala has secretly produced 200 white picture discs so now everyone is unpacking their second, third (or forth!!??) copies just to check if they got a white pic release.
Which means that there is probably not a single bought release still in shrink-wrap today.
If that wasn't the case I believe that next year a "second hand shrink-wraped" copy of RIIS would easily sell around £200 which is ridiculous to me.
Anyway, big up Mala. My thought is that this could serve as a dissertation in Music Business, specially now-days with everyone being so used to piracy and this being a vinyl only release that people buy like hot bread.
On the other hand the white pic discs are on sale for £70 a month after release date, so go figure. Interesting times..
I don't think Mala put that much thought into the opening of shrink wrap. I think he just wanted to do something special.dopocc wrote:I'd like to add that what Mala has done is quite clever. First there were rumors of a limited pressing and the anticipation became H U G E.
