I hate that shit so fucking much man. I feel like most people aren't as musically intellectual (As pretentious as that sounds) as we are, they're comfortable with whatever is shown to them and care not to delve into a particular sound to explore it for all it has to offer, thus, brostep fans are conceived, and shamefully not aborted.

But, I must note, I'm all for someone who has thoroughly researched the sound of traditional 140 music, and really gotten to know the artists and the over all sound, but decided on the fact that they like brostep more, that's fine with me. It's just the people who won't even give the traditional deep dark sound the time of day and turn there back on it at a first listen, that's frustrating. It's just not commercial sounding enough, and they can't understand the concepts and techniques of space and minimalism in music. The kids that can't grasp something if it's not particularly catchy and flashy.

You should give the traditional sound a chance before you decide that brostep is going to be your niche.

I don't think people "should" do anything.
Try and universalise that concept of "always checking out the musical trends before" x genre - it'd go on forever.
I adore my dark tunes but I don't listen to any dub on a regular basis, nor do I listen to much dark garage.
I like techy drum & bass, but I've never really listened to much jungle
I like contemporary classical music - that doesn't mean I should research and listen to every piece of classical music ever written before the pieces I like.

"Most people" will always have bad taste in music to the arm chair wingers who sit writing elitist posts on forums. Frankly, I can't see why anyone gives a fuck - yeah sure it might be embarrassing when you feel you have to explain what you mean when you say you like dubstep and not brostep or whatever... but I'm not into my music to get pissed off at people who "don't understand".

Well, to me at least, the amount of ignorance can be quite frustrating at times, because many of these people have such a false, convoluted, distorted idea of what dubstep truly is, and it is very irritating.
Also, it's much worse in some places than in others.

I agree with what Cornbreaddd said, but on the other hand we have to bear in mind that not everybody is as deep into music as most of us are. Most people don't spend all day looking for new tunes and discussing them on internet forums like we do, simply because they are more interested in other things. I do think it could be good for our scene if the brostep fans got to know the traditional side, but I don't know if a lot of them find it necessary to do the research. I've never really been into jungle and therefore I don't spend a lot of time listening to it hoping that one day I will learn to like it (eventhough I did do my research on the genre), I'd rather spend my time listening to the music I like. I think it's the same with the brostep kids ; if you really love Excision and that's really the thing for you, why would you put in the effort to listen to Mala ?

If you hear Goat Stare on a system or even just at home with a nice set up/good headphones and you're bored at the second drop then really I don't think it's any different a situation to Badman VIP. There's no point even bothering sending dungeon or a lot of traditional dubstep tracks on YouTube to someone who you know doesn't have the right equipment to properly hear the track. You're better off just sticking to sending them something which doesn't suffer too badly from lack of sub bass like Burial or Martyn.

tbh im getting more annoyed at the kids who discover "proper" dubstep and then about a month later begin raging at how stupid everyone else is for not being clever enough to like it too

Superior no. Smarter maybe, but yeah, not everyone with a PhD is necessarily smart. It was just an example really.

I stopped getting upset with people for having differing tastes in music a long time ago. When I meet someone who says they like Brostep, I hook them up with a mix of traditional sounds and leave it at that. If they dig it, cool, if they get past the first track and turn it off, whatever, I did my part in exposing them to it.
