If anything DRM increases piracy, I don't understand how publishers don't get that yet. Every new game gets cracked and uploaded within a couple days of release, and the players who pirate have an easier time than the paying customers cos they don't have to deal with DRM.

^exactly. DRM games get pirated more than non-drm games.
but then again, you have steam, so at least you have the option of playing offline if you so wish.

wait are you calling stealth dated?
Eh? no.
Thief had mechanics perfect for stealth.
They were great, the games (the second at the very least) are classics. But not perfect.
I don't want the handholding bs, i can''t solve a puzzle bs included in most modern games.
I want a damn challenge again.
I'm not sure if you've read someone else's comments but I have said nothing even close to 'not wanting a challenge' or that 'stealth is dated'.
stealth is about stealth, not abilities, not about scores, about figuring shit out on your own no objective arrows.
pure puzzles, simple mechanics without shortcuts where if you screw up you start all over again, aka a challenge.
agreed (well not the abilities bit, that doesn't make any sense)
why ruin thief?
I didn't realise they would be altering the original games with this reboot!!
I'd like to see the game progress beyond the trappings of the original series. I'd like to see branching story lines and meaningful consequences (ala Witcher 2), AI with a modicum of actual intelligence (ala Crysis), taking influence from some of the more modern stealth games to really do well like Arkham Asylum, Mark of the Ninja and even Splinter Cell (not the recent incarnations). The more corporeal navigation of Mirror's Edge, or the sword fighting of Chivalry. The helplessness and isolation of Amnesia. An open world approach that served FarCry 3 so well. Randomised encounters or level design ala Diablo (perhaps outside the main story drive). Story informed level design instead of Thief 2's bizarrely odd story stapled to the levels. There's so many ways this game could become a stone cold classic as long as the developers move without the fear that they have to just recreate Thief 2 in a modern gfx engine. Which is why I'm happy it's a complete reboot. Thief provides a great foundation, but it IS 15 years old and games are capable of so much more now.
To take it a step further perhaps an asymmetric multiplayer along the lines of the the spy vs merc (thief versus security?), of course without distraction from the single player campaign. Maybe even a level editor with the ease of the Trials level editors (or I guess Little Big Planet) - you create a house or mansion and have limited resources for security measures.
it had a damn good setting and gameplay, damn near perfected stealth
For a 15 years old game yup!

I thought this when first played it, but after playing it for a while, I think it's on par with source.
Source was a pile of doo compared to 1.6 though. Did actually put about 20 hours in when it came out, but
1.6 was just the better game with better competition.
If I remember correctly, you can't even 'strafe' in the hl2 engine. For me that was what made counter-strike so great.

Takes skill to do that though. For me the movement was 60% of the whole game.
Roman could move through vents twice as fast as most people, crazy stuff.
