PHASEten wrote:Erm, ok what would you describe them as then?

Not black/death/doom metal perhaps but anyone who says Korn arent a metal band is unfourtunately showing some of the same ill founded bias that helped tear the scene apart in the first place.

I got sick of people who were into black/doom/thrash/death metal hating on each other and everyone else who wasnt into the same thing as them. It got soooo fucking boring in the end. Which is why so many people have dropped it like and turned to genres like dubstep that dont have all that segregation and hatred toward different styles within the same genre.

What happened to metal? The fucking fans happened. Tore apart their own scene from the inside. Hope they are happy......

Peace
Uhhh, Korn is a funk rock band with downtuned guitars. I like pretty much all metal music, Korn just.. isn't.. it? I don't care what is metal and what isn't. They're just.. not. Does it really matter? Yeah, no metal head thinks Korn is metal, that's the end of metal. Except some of the best metal has been released in this decade so..

..

*_*
yup as far as korn
i have their band pre korn lapd's cd still and that is def proper funk

@ joeb we do not mention that band here, yes they tried to incorporate those elements of electronix music into their album and failed (see number of threads on dsf about that "dubstep" track they did) I liked their other album used to be fun to cycle to it but I heard their new stuff on the radio today it's just bad music

@ joe c - your right man those bands do get labelled as emo even though they really aren't, emo music goes wayyyyy back, I can't quote any bands because I don't really listen to it but yeah bands like mcr and fallout boy are more pop/rock in my eyes

@ everyone bringing up korn/linkin park etc that scene was cool around 2000 it was labelled nu-metal, barely metal but it doesn't really reflect at all what is happening 10 years after. Linkin park went alternative/bland, limb bizkit reformed and are trying to pump the same stuff out I think?

truth is though you try to sum up those bands as metal any other place and people will laugh at you and call them pop.

I'm assuming op was on about the majority of music on metal labels e.g screamo / wannabe thrash shit. Like that attack attack band I mean wtf was that all about?

haha I was working at download this year, the guy I was working with adored them.

Listen to one dragonforce song, appreciate everything thats happening. (cheesy vocals, sped up guitars that are quite sloppy live, drums are alright I guess, keytar = fuck off)

You have now heard every dragonforce song ever written

New-wave Tried To Kill The Metal
But They Failed, As They Were Stricken Down To The Ground
Grunge Tried To Kill The Metal Ha,hahahahaha
They Failed, As They Were Thrown To The Ground

No-one Can Destroy The Metal
The Metal Will Strike You Down With A Vicious Blow

lol it's like who cares, with recordings like that the tone sounds shite

tone = most underated aspect of metal guitar playing

speed (at cost of tone + accuracy) = most overated aspect of metal guitar playing

too many people thinking that because they play a really fast song really sloppily they have "mad sklillssszzz"

man i work at a store full of guitars
soooo many poor players who play at full volume
general rule of thumb ive noticed is worse the player louder they crank the volume
and i swear if i hear a sloppy playing of stairway to heaven one more time....
