listen to my own tunes a lot, i listen when...

-i have finished them recently then i will anaylase for 1 maybe 2 weeks after i have made, to improve.

-if i am liking i will listen a lot yeh, i make music i want to hear, lol.

-old tunes are interesting, see how i have progressed ect. they obv relate to memories and emotions as someone said earlier, some i am very proud of as well even if they are now rubbish compared to newer stuff..

My usual procedure is when I make a tune, I listen to it all day, and all night... If the day after that I want to listen it again, the tune is ready to go out :)

As I'm pretty much involved in music nowdays I can say that in 95% i listen only to my own music. Thinking about it, developing it, making it, playing it... Really devoted myself for work... I once even get rid of all others music I had because I felt I was starting to copy ones I liked and devoted myself 99% on only my own work...

more people should do this

too many people only listen to the genre they produce...which is god awful. like hip hop kids who listen to dilla all day and then expect to produce something new...

i remember aphex twin saying he didnt listen to other peoples music because he didnt want even the chance of them tainting what he should do with the song

*awaiting aphex twin is shite comments*

well to be honest, I find that action a rather extreme. I think the word "moderate" should be the punchline here. I think one should never forget that music is also about fun and having a good times, not only seriousness and uniqueness of it...

i listen to my tunes more than alot of the other shit on my players for inspiration for next tunes im working on to nitpick and be anal and if it's a wip to get inspired
i mean i mainly write for myself so may sound like i have an ego but repeatedly listening to my own shit helps me improve more for next batch of tunes i make

nowaysj wrote:Don't really make songs here, just song chunks.

I do periodically render out a bunch of mp3's and have a listen. By that point, I usually don't even remember making the chunk, so it gets a fair listen.

Even still, some days I will like a chunk that I did, and on other days, I'll think its balls. How that happens, I don't know?

I think I've got 40 or so chunks to render out now. Contrary to others, I think I like some of my earlier dubstep better than the later dubstep. Had a real hard time w/ progression lately.
yea same and i have alot of finished stuff i just don't vibe with that io prolly could sign tbh, just doesn't pass my test
like right now looking in wav render full tune folder since im working on an lp and a couple eps for some labels 56 tunes finished subfolder of ones i dig and wanna re-mixdown some more 3 tunes

When I first make and finish a tune it's the only thing I listen to for ages.

Then, I'll only ever listen to it again when I'm either feeling nostalgic or my ipod is on shuffle.

Usually inspires me to go and write a new, better track.

heh see even with my own released shit i listen to more than shit i buy just cause i mix em so much or wanna pick out flaws as a reference or go off feedback bout sounds on what to recreate or reuse in a new track (reused pusherman bass sound and drum loop a few times even in released shit) i dunno like i said i write for myself if it has a widespread appeal great
i try to write shit that deviates from the norm alot of the time but sometimes just my own take on whats popular which tends to get released

LOL sometimes I will go on a hunt through myspace to find new music. And a lot of times I come across the far lesser known post-Dilla producers. It's blatantly obvious. I mean it's not that it's bad...it's just fairly obvious they listen to little other than Dilla and other usual suspects.

fed up with everything I make within a month. Sometimes when i check out old things I made I hear some nice moments but overall I hate.
mostly this.

im to shy to let people i know listen to my music, but i do like listening to some of it myself

recently ive been doing stuff a little further away from dubstep just to keep it fresh, i doubt anyone will like it but i do so it makes it worthwhile in the end

abZ wrote:I always equated listening to your tunes like looking in the mirror. You never quite see/hear what other people hear and I am sure you aren't going to whack off to yourself in the mirror unless you have some issues. Likewise if you listen to your own tunes constantly then there is probably something wrong with you. I make tunes for myself yeah but not for myself to listen to necessarily. I get my enjoyment out of the process rather than enjoying the fruit of the labor. Once it's done it is for everyone else, or whoever digs it.
