...but the fact remains, the same good studio practices that have been preached here have been preached in studios far & wide. When something works, there is a reason people keep doing it over & over.

So - to be honest - the techniques are basic... it is the dedication that separates the men from the mice. If you want a "talent" button to push, sorry... it doesn't exist. If you really read and ingest all the production stickies in this forum... you will actually be better off than Loefah when he first started (and I bet he would even agree to the same). The main difference is he dedicated himself to 1) learning from any one that he could and 2) never let himself rest - instead he flexed harder and always tried to do more today than he did yesterday. Simple concept - but actually very tough to live day in and day out.

the question is - what are YOU gonna do?

yup, all comes down to effort.

however, the op was just asking about his setup out of interest, not trying to get the same stuff in the vain hope he'll suddenly be as good as Loefah.

I'm guessing some/(most?) of his biggest riddims were made on logic and a macbook

Fair enough - and it was already answered by a few people... Started off with Reason, now with Logic. Whatever program it is - it is almost (if not all) laptop based.

The biggest advantage a lot of those guys have is that they all live close and work together a lot! they pick up so many tips its unreal.

if you want to copy his drums I think he uses this. You can pretty much copy any of his drum patterns exactly the same withing a few mins using this machine. I think most of his new tracks are made using the below drums.

I'm pretty sure that the fact that leofah uses an 808 is the more obvious thing about his productions

as said in interveiws ect. he was obsessed with engineering tunes PERFECT, and pretty much acheived it lol. In that last interview with Kryptic Minds he was saying about when he couldnt make any tunes for months and he had bare loops which were mixed down perfect. But he couldnt finish the tunes cos the ideas werent right. Thank the lord he seems to be making and finishing things again now.

Shows to be fair ideas are the name of the game, amazing mixdowns are just the icing on the top of the cake..

anyone have any idea where to start as far as mixing down perfectly. what vst's/ eq'ing/ compress/ing techniques do you use for that perfect mix. how do you know what frequencies to take out etc.. all that. please some1 tell me where i can start plz thx

i swear when tim and barrys www.dontwatchthat.tv website started up, they gave a list of features that would be appearing on their site, which included studio interviews with skream, cotti and LOEFAH!!! but i have not heard anything about it since i saw that post. might have been on here that they posted it as well
