I'm pretty sure BT once said if you HP everything thats not bass and drums at 140hz your tunes will sound 300% clearer straight away.
He was right.
EQ is just a tool like anything else, sometimes you need it sometimes you dont.
Most of the sounds I use need shaping at some point to get them the way I want them, they don't miraculously appear perfect straight away.

agree with the main point of this thread, less eq is often more. All about making sounds that fit together rather than smashing sounds into each other that dont fit (most of the time).
