mmm, love them for mixing, light years ahead of anything else, but hate the colour they put on the sound for actually just listening to tunes.

sony mdr-ex500s are the best i've yet found for great sub response, beautiful and clean right through the entire range. go a lot louder than the mdr-ex90s (which they superseded) as well. something like 60 quid, well well worth it though. plus you don't look like a dickhead when you pull them out on the train.

definitely the ones to mix with, loud and the highs never to come through perfectly, but they seem to start clipping hard even when not hugely loud, and it all sort of sounds like it's been rammed through a hpf.

Most does not necessarily mean best. Some have learnt from experience

The biggest issue with rusko is he uses the same exact wobble in almost every song. Also doesnt help it makes up 70%+ of those songs.

I find myself liking dubstep remixes, nice and layered with heavy bass. Below are 2 quick examples, the quality is low but you get the idea.

I've asked in other forums about which headphones they suggest for decent clean bass and none of them have mentioned HD25. I don't know if this is because they were "audiophile" forums that worry more about highs then bass.

I'm a big fan of my Denon AH-D2000
Also use Monster Turbines for laptop use on the go. Tight clean bass for IEM's

The hd800's are well above my budget. Even If I had the money I doubt I'd get them, they look really ugly.

They have a choice of interchangeable filters if you prefer mids/highs, or bass. Clarity is awesome, volume isn't deafening (they're made by hearing aid manufacturers) but trust me, it gets through. I listen to a lot of TRiLLBASS, Borgore, etc. for an idea of sound.

You'd be paying in the region of £130. I had these after the old Shure E4Cs, and couldn't be happier.

If you get high end ones, they fully isolate outside noise (to a point; you'd still hear a jackhammer at close range!), and as the buds form a seal around the ear entry, eveything that's coming out of the speaker is going into your ear. I've only got an average pair of Technics cans, and while the bass is huge, I find it harder to pick out individual sounds.

To answer your question, yes they're equal to headphones. Probably better, the more you pay. But this is just as a listener, I wouldn't know the first thing if you're after a pair for DJing.

Exactly why they should go with Ultrasones. I swore by Senns for years and years. I had 1 pair that lasted like 5 years. Claw put me on the Ultrasones and I haven't looked back. You seriously need to ask yourself how much you value your hearing and if a pair of cans with a straight up flat response isn't what you really need.

I keep hearing people in this thread saying things about distortion when the sound gets too loud. I encourage people wanting to listen to loud music to not do it in headphones at all, and if you do, do it with Ultrasones or something with a flat response and not something that just simply boosts bass into your ear drum. Silly idea for anyone who loves music and wants to listen to it for years to come. Save your money, get the good headphones. They won't break, the cord is mad long. Get dem.

When I said I don't care about the highs I mean I dont need anything really above 17k hz Frequency. Whats funny is most of the hifi expensive headphones say yeah we offer 18k up to 25k which blows my mind because the highest note is 16.4k hz. My reference to "not caring" is headphones where you pay more for the 17k +.

And I'd be surprized if you can find a pair of headphones with clean hard bass under $50. In my mind I have the absolutely cheapest pair of decent sounding headphones with solid bass (212's.)

Not feeling the idea of needing batteries for it to work. You are unable to use them if the noise cancellation is turned off.
