the human mind knows how to reach and make "logical" connections out of nowhere, based on nothing at all. very interesting indeed

edit: thinking about it, maybe you were actually being serious...that's even more hilarious

But I think it's safe to say that when any genre starts going through the corporate mill it often comes out the other side a little bit too shiny, a little bit too samey, and a little bit too shit.

When something is small and people are into it, they're usually pretty real about whatever "something" is. When it gets big, you get the bandwagon jumpers, scenesters, fakers, pretend experts etc (and don't get me wrong, we get this now).

I cringe when I hear "dubstep explosion" (FaltyDL interview on XLR8R) and other similar terms. I know it's a great thing that it's gonna be big and we'll all have more people to talk about it with but I just can't really say I want that to happen.

But at the same time I'm being a little bit elitist here and I know that. "Yeah we're the "underground"!" - "Fuck the mainstream", "I knew this before you did". etc. And I fully realise this. But I think for dubstep to remain true to it's shit, this is gonna be a bad thing... Or maybe it's just a positive evolution of the genre? I don't fucking know to be honest.

I just really hope the skinny jeans crowd don't get on it. Oh my daze.

(also gonna post this on my blog - would appreciate you guys taking a look - link below)
Oh god, the skinny jeans people ruining the precious scene.

P.S your location indicates you like dub not dubstep, they are 2 different things.

Ok bear in mind I'm coming from an Irish perspective. We've had a few nice things over the past couple of years here but there's no "movement" here yet as such.. But it's on the way.

I think some of you are missing the point here though. Or maybe I didn't say what I wanted to in the right way.

"Electro" for example. Is shite. The poppy-electro all the "indie-electro" nights play anyway. This for me is because they've been corrupted by the "this is working! keep doing it! fuck that it sounds the same!" attitude. It's making money so why change something if it isn't broken etc. Which is fine. I don't believe in sellouts, everyone has to make money. But it's at the cost of the original, less-refined sound that was there in the first place.

And I would prefer if that didn't hapeen to dubstep. Feel me?

Sly digs like that and the "Joined: May 15th" are weak. I'm just trying to have a conversation.

I'm from Dublin.

Im all for the scene to grow and become more popular however what I am concerned about is that as dubstep becomes more popular the music will ultimately suffer.
Anthem bashing, cloned derivative productions, reduced experimentation, constrained diversity, and distorted wobble tracks became more endemic. In truth, if this path continues to be the major part of the scene in the future, the genre will burn itself out or turn itself musically and culturally irrelevant in less time than it took to incubate in the dark Croydon shadows.

if the big producers stop making natural music (not making what people always want to hear) and stop loving what there doing then there will be a problem with dubstep getting too big. Look at someone like skream pretty much the biggest name in the scene atm for his tearout stuff, but cos he isnt just playing for the crowd he's making all sorts of stuff, some amazing deeper tunes.

Look at the Dead Weathers Rmx and the Bat For Lashes one, he could of just done a LaRoux but obv that wasnt natural.

Cos dubstep is bigger doesnt automatically mean its worse as lol, although the old dubstep days when it was really underground have been the best of the genre imo...

The_Dza88 you seem to have something jammed way up your ass. How about you go take a flying leap ? Honestly... it would do us all good. You and Bandshell should either find some tall building or move to Siberia. Either way... the world is a better place !
there's cats in the production forum that are a few steps ahead of you. there's a "ban the DZA" poll thread in progress...and I think those in favour of "he should go" are in the lead!
