Out at Shambhala in 2007, my brother and I met a guy (who turned out to be HxdB - an absolutely awesome guy and, in my case, a fuggin prophet) at the Ed Rush and Optical set, we ended up chilling with him for a little while, and he said at one point if we liked this, to 'come back to this stage tomorrow night, at 11:00.'

We did, and my first experience even hearing the word dubstep was seeing Skream absolutely destroy the Village Stage out there and its legendary pK soundsystem... you talk about a life-altering experience, holy shit.

Hatcha, Crazy D - Flight 101.5

Listened to that show as it turned from a dark garage kinda show into the strangest sounding stuff that we could only describe as "Hatcha" tunes.... Which is what became known as Dubstep as we know it today....

Used to listen every week knowing that Fat Larry's Skank would get played every time... :D

"Ichi Nowa un Gowa"

Looking into some Massive attack history and Bristol, came across some tunes and search the artists and got the connection from there, probably first tunes I got hooked on was something by shakleton but sort of left it there as I was quickly getting into Hardstyle but when I heard Japan by Plastician it sparked my love for dubstep again and the rest is history really, hooked and loving it.

Current GF (wasn't at the time) told me about this new music called "dubstep" so I checked it out on wiki and listened to a clip, my first thoughts

"minimal wank"

(I was a metalhead by the way)
I eventually understood when I heard haunted by dmz along with midnight request line, cockney thug etc

Technicality All Nighter in 2007.

Went there with a mate of mine as he loves the dnb, I wasn't that interested but he told me another room would have some other music I would enjoy.

Who should turn up to play? LOEFAH

I'd never heard bass quite like it, the chairs were vibrating. After that I picked up Vex'd - Degenerate and went on from there.

For me it was the 2 mp3 mixes put up on the Rephlex website just before the release of the Grime 1 CD in 2004. I loved the way it sounded a like a style where no-one really knew quite what they were doing yet - really fresh but kind of awkward and lumpy. I was hooked straight away, but my mates thought I was mental.

First dubstep club experience was at the Thekla in Bristol, probably one of the first grime/dubstep nights put on in the city. At the beginning everyone seemed a bit confused at how to dance to this wonky spacious weirdness, but by the end it was an absolute rave. Plastician (then Plasticman) absolutely rinsed it.

August 2007 a mate played me a couple of Skream and Distance podcasts and I was like hmm interesting.

Shortly thereafter attended FWD w/ Skream, Distance and Loefah on the bill.

Hooked.

After that night we went to FWD almost every week until it moved to Sundays :)

That little record shop that used to be next to Camden market but isn't there any more. I asked the rasta behind the counter for a good CD and he gave me Ed Solo - Random Acts Of Kindness. In the car on the way home me and my friends cranked up 'Sludge' and I'd never heard anything like it in my life, ah 2007 was a good year
