One of the most underated bands ever, and now better than ever (IM0) as JESU.
Also the new OM album is exquisite, minimal and ultra heavy.
Justin Broadrick played with Sunn O))) this past Friday 13th in London. It really was fucking awesome - and I don't use that word very often.
I like the Om stuff of course but that Sleep album has serious bass weight.

Yeah - it's physical like dubstep basically, except there's no percussion (the occasional gong) so it needs to be stupid loud.
They had something like 7 massive amp stacks on top of a very meaty club PA - multiple drones means lots of beat frequency stuff going on so you had sub bass going down very low, < 20Hz I'd say. 2Hrs plus of this and most people were just standing there slack jawed. Nice. Smoke, strobes and robes all adds to the effect.

It's not slow, but Clutch's first EP, Passive Restraints, is slathered in a particulary American-gothic style dirt.
thanks for the cult of luna tip, gonna have to search some of that out.

This is where Scorn finally found its niche and put out a masterpiece that put earlier works to shame. Moving further away from the metal/industrial sound that typified earlier Scorn CDs; Evanescence took Harris down a much more experimental road that allowed his musical talent to shine. As always the vocals on this album are great and loaded with heavy amounts of distortion that make one feel as if in a dream. Silver Rain Fell is by far the best track on the album (but the album as a whole adds to the depth of the song and helps to make it stand out). This album is not only the best work put out by Scorn but also an example of how the band (Mick Harris) continues to grow and redefine itself. Long gone are the days of Napal Death (whose member went on to form both Scorn and Godflesh).
Love to mear Harris do some dubstep, I mean he's practically been doing it for the last 5 or 6 years, just needs to up the tempo.
His stuff on Hymen is sick. Absolutely gut wrenching instrumental hip hop with nuff bass.
Well feeling Dalek too, drones and heavy sludgey beats with some tight MCing - can't go wrong.

Yup.
Big up Slint and Don Cabellero
Are you into Battles? They are incredible saw them in Camden earlier this year, absolutely ripped it.
Then saw Don Cabellero in Dalston and they were fucking awful, must have been missing their Battles defector...saying that I think it's only the drummer from the original line up.

Nice to hear shout-outs for Godflesh and Fudge Tunnel (their cover of Sunshine of your Love is just definitive)
Their later stuff seems to be mostly thrash metal toss though, but these were evil as hell

the new album by sunn 0))) and boris is HEAVY AS FUCK and absoulutely astonishing. I've not heard much of either band's earlier stuff but i'll definitely be checking them out. The new celtic frost album, "monotheist", is the heaviest, darkest and most oppressive album since through silver in blood i reckon - probably the best metal album of this year. who's feeling the new isis album? i really like the double kick drumming and i think the clean vocals work well, they've moved their sound forward.
