It was originally designed as a sound amplification device. It is a 155 decibel megaphone, not the death ray from GI Joe.

I dunno about the rest of you but I've been tear gassed, pepper-sprayed and had a water cannon blasted at me that's had CS dissolved in the water.

Trust, that shit is NOTHING compared to the sort of pain I expect from 118dB.

It's worth noting that at the G20 protests the "cannon" was only used to amplify voice instructions to the crowd, the "weapon" features are all disabled so there should have never been any worry about people's eardrums getting fucked up. Having said that, I'm more than aware that plastic bullets offer a pretty genuine danger of eyesight loss and death, as do the various gases (especially when you're dealing with people who's medical histories you don't know)... so a bit of variety seems like a good thing.

We won't stop the Police tooling up to control protests. We can hope they do it in non-lethal ways.... even if this move isn't a brilliant one, at least it shows that they're looking at some alternatives. It needn't be assumed that they're ramping UP their attacks.

In one of the links from the article you posted, there is a full explaination of how it was actually used. "Weapon mode" was not turned on.

Has anyone come forward as injured? That would surely be the clincher for you? If people got hurt, then obviously something bad happened. All I've seen so far is a lot of people panicking.

I'm not sure what the problem is with my line of thinking. You realise opinions are, well, matters of opinion, don't you? If you'd like me to blindly follow and believe what you say, then at least have the decency to say that's what you're after and I'll just ignore the threads. Everytime someone disagrees you have to jump in the deep end. You'd get a lot more positive reaction if you were slightly more reasonable with your "education".

You haven't posted enough in this thread to convince me of your opinion... so, sorry, you'll just have to accept it and move on if you don't want to talk about it like adults. I do have a problem with sonic weaponary being used against peaceful demonstrators and if you can show me some evidence (someone injured, official statement etc etc) that it actually occurred... yes, they played loud noises at them, but it doesn't look like it was in great enough volume or targetting to be considered a weapon.

Personally, I'm more upset about the gas canisters they threw about... but I suppose that's old tactics and so not so exciting to people who want to get carried away with themselves.

What you are professing is an opinion just as mine. You choose not to wait for incontravertable evidence to believe something... that's not the way I work, but I understand why you don't feel the need for proof to believe anything... it loses a lot of the excitement when you notice Occam's Razor kicking in all the time.
