it's just people missed the main part of "you're entitled to your opinion, but that's not gonna change reality any bit"

If you have nothing to hide, it doesn't really matter either way, so I don't really care, but it is really fucked up either way.

you make it sound like it's a matter of opinion, it's happening, you can touch it, what's to agree on?
I was talking about we agreeing on each others opinions.

Scary stuff, I really wouldn't be surprised if the whole "terrorism" thing was entirely fictional and designed to aid a move to this kind of level of observation etc. Most of it is fictional imo and the stuff that's real is our fault anyway.

This could lead to several ninja's being investigated I think certainly some abnormal stuff posted in here.

the danger, people are missing, isn't that "abnormal" people will be investigated

its that they can decide what "abnormal" means.
lots of innocent people will be affected by this

in the same open spirit i would like to know if your dads used to beat your mums and what exams you cheated so far

just for a warm up, i need it for some studies i'm making

i thought in the year 2009 on this planet people thinking they have nothing to hide so nothing to worry are extinct because the thousands of years of natural selection
statistically speaking you are the anomaly, really, but happily for you, their criteria is pretty different so you'll be fine

On principle it's pretty shit, but don't worry it will never work, a god awful waste of money though.

Are you serious?
Do you not value your privacy?
How about you post the last ten emails you received for all of us to read?

It's not that I don't value my privacy, I just understand that getting indignant on an internet forum won't really solve anything. :)

Besides, this is nothing new, data mining has been practiced out here for likely...close to a decade now, I'd guess.

What do you think they collect all that info for? to NOT analyze it somehow? lawl

The fact that they're straight up admitting now that they're doing this kind of shit should come as no surprise. I mean, for fuck's sake, this is the UK we're talking about.

Some of you need to think about this a bit more logically, do you really think that any of us on here are even blips on the radar of law enforcement/intelligence agencies?

I know that dude Parson might like to think he is (though I actually do agree with him on certain things), but come on now.

so it's logical to switch perspective from "i don't fucking care, i have nothing to hide" to "i care, but that's happening since decades and there's nothing new about it" ?

let alone that everything you say is false..

now to come true you have 2 logical options:
1. admit you were dumber than dirt when you said "i have nothing to hide"
2. disclose any personal data you are asked no matter who asks

That's the thing, though, I mean, it bothers me on a moral level because I think everyone's privacy should be respected but on a practical level I don't think of it as such a big deal because I don't know many potential terrorists, or major drug smugglers...nor am I either of these things myself, so why would it matter to me if my activities on the internet are being monitored? The implications of any state defining what is "abnormal" are a bit sinister of course, but they're not gonna waste valuable resources going after typical druggies or conspiracy nuts. I will seriously post a video of myself eating glass if they take it any further than trying to go after potential terrorists/drug smugglers.

Why get vexed over something that doesn't logically affect you? We live in the West, this is the price that comes with it.

...and I say all this as someone who used to be on some FREE PALESTINE!!!!!11 shit. If anything, I have more to worry about than most of you. Haha.

The rational solution to all of this, especially if you DO have something to hide, would be to not talk about the kind of shit that could get you bagged on the internet. :)
