Didnt he say he used a VST which boosted freqs in a good way for vocals? so he smashes it up and then limits it I guess

I watched it last night. He uses Vintage Warmer generally for the vocals....then he busts out two compressor lowers the threshold on one compressor and then boost the output on the next compressor (I think? something like that).


judging by that vid he doesn't get bogged down in technical shit...which was refreshing to see.

Benga didn't seem to either.

Little bit apples and oranges, but I think benga's tracks sound cleaner (although whoever does his mastering, I think that dood hates the world), and el b's are saltier/crunchier.

I think benga's got a lot more going on too, homie is not kidding when he says he hi passes everything for automation's sake. Every element of that mix is always moving.

mos def. i always have to lower benga tunes when they come on.

I appreciate both there sounds. although I go for the crunchier sound myself....sounds good to me.

not a big fan of completely polished & clean sounds. the hip-hop in me I guess.


I also watched a next producers masterclass with Ctrl Z or whoever. didnt take it in too deeply (more because I had no clue who they were). gotta watch again.

can't this be accomplished straight up with one compressor?
