I'd agree with Dubway. Definately 20 or 30 tracks would be needed to make this work and have reasonable quality control. This won't happen instantly though. I suggest someone finds an FTP host or something and just puts up a post with a link so people can start contributing tracks.
If youre serious about artwork i could definately pull a favour and get some CDs printed and copied professionally extremely cheaply (cost price). But we'd still be looking at say £270 pounds or so for 500 copies. And that would be two tone black and white.
It will cost more to have them greyscale or full colour. Cases and inlay cards will cost more again.
Without wanting to put dampener on things - I would definately be wary of assuming you'll be able to sell these things. Don't forget how easy it is to get tracks and mixes from big DJs for free.
One way to do it would be to get poeple who are interested to sign up (perhaps have separate threads for producers / people who want a copy / people who can help) and pay for a copy in advance, individually the CDs would cost very little if you did it this way (+ a little more for p&p).
However, this requires a considerable ammount of trust in a few people and also they will have to commit themselves to a reasonable amount of effort.
Let me know if i can help.

thank you very much for your help and wise words point-blanc!
if anyone wants to run this project this way(press cds) - let me know and i'll give you all help i can! (i'm to busy to do it myself)
if there is noone who is willing to do it this way - i suggest that we make a mix and artwork - zip it and put it online for free (if we get enough good tunes of course)

I'd still it rather just showcase the transglobal sound with each contributing producer from their own country hooking up indy distribution...
...while 20 producers may be needed but i don't think so, I'd rather hear 3 or so trax from 5 exceptional producers than bland filler from another 15. 2 half steppers and a club banger would be nice
that way you get a feel for the individual sounds of each producer and can note the mutations in the strain as it passes through their region...
...takin it overground
and for those interested, i have a life that doesn't revolve around dubstep so been busy working some pretty cool events...
...might post piccies later

that's why selection is there, right?
but you cant make selection if you don't have something to select, right?

the key is to identify high grade strains and mutations from what's out there and target them specifically

Intoccabile's original suggestion as i understand it was to create a selection that shows the flavours of the dubstep forum and its producers.
I hear where youre coming from dubmugga but it seems to me that what youre suggesting is hardly in the spirit of the thing.
Honestly mate i fully get your vibe but maybe thats something for a later date... pick the best from the initial compilation or something. A couple of artists is hardly a 'showcase' of what the forums producers have to offer is it?

it would probably be a good idea to have the initial one a strictly internet thing and then the following one a more polished product... or something, if that hasnt already been suggested.

I could definately try to fire you a few tunes. I have loads on the go, and this should push me to finish a few more!
Obviously there has to be quality control - and I won't be offended if my tunes aren't up to scratch!
Was planning to put up a webpage soon with some clips, and I'm off sick at the mo, so now may be a good opportunity to do so.
Either way, tis a good idea.
