Basically, Grime is for hooded primitives to sacrifice animals to and dubstep is for refined aesthetes to pare their fingernails and compose lyric poetry to.

Could you repeat that so I can stroke my chin some more?

Dubstep vibrates to the core of my being, in every throb of sub I feel the tremor of existential ennui rumbling through my bowels. Grime just makes me want to be sick into my handkerchief.

like someone said up there ^^, try the wikipedia entries for dubstep & grime first.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dubstep

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grime

Dubstep, the emphasis is on the music - production standards are high and there's ALWAYS lots of sub bass

Grime, the beats are often much more basic, but it's more about the MCs.

Grime is primarily a black form of music which emphasizes its low res qualities. Another black from of music akin to punk some might say.

Dubstep on the other hand is universal and a nal retentive

You can break it down simply like this...

Grime beats are generally far simpler than dubstep and compliment an MC much better than dubstep. Most Grime tunes are generally made for mc's to spit over.

Dubstep instrumentals on the other hand speak for themselves. You'll also see far more raw/primal aggression in Grime while Dubstep can get dark/aggressive but in a primarily non-violent nature.

Someone hit the cultural mark on the head...Grime will always be tied to its sub culture while dubstep can transcend it in certain ways. Neither qualities make either form of music any more important than the other.

Not to generalise or anything.

Not so sure about that. Most grime beats sound way more innovative than the halfstep that has been going on and on and on and...

[edit: please don't see this a motive to start another discussion on 1) dubstep > grime, 2) halfstep. there has been enough of it, i think]

people who constantly say "grime is made for mcs" need to question what that means exactly

what thought procersses do you imagine producers have when making tunes 'for MCs'? Becuase i see no real evidence of this. Its just different styles. If anything, instrumentals for vocalists need to have less in the middle while grime tunes tend to have quite busy middles.
That MCs dominate the grime scene is generally more to do with the audience and infrastructure of the scene and desnt necessarily mean everyone working on grime is aiming for this to be the case. producers just do what they do

So stop generalising. A lot of the time the beats can stand up strong on their own, you just have to let them
