because making such a remix is lame and easy and because somebody already made the tune for you and what you have to do is just put your 'artists' hand to it

I think the same could be said of most remixes and remakes that have been released over the last 20 years. Most of them are utterly pointless as they don't even attempt to reinterpret the songs in a meaningful way.

Ive done about 3 remixes to date, I consider them away of outletting your production style alongside a tune that you appriciate/like/want to change. I don't think these are just a case of slapping some dubstep drums on them.... all though i did do that with my no doubt - don't speak remix.

I remixed a borgore tune too because i wanted to make it chilled how it should be, i don't think i did too badly on that one.

That was you? ouch dude... i can see why you took it down 2bh
i think the problem with this remix culture we have now is that people do remixes of big tunes to try and get noticed rather than for their love of the music. I did that radiohead remix because i fucking love radiohead and i wanted to do something interesting with their music and put my own take on it, i couldn't give a shit if anyone else likes the track or not, turns out people do like the track and thats awesome but its not why i made the track

I dunno if it's my internet or myspace, but the player isn't loading. I'm quite sure it couldn't be worse than the "acid" tune I sent FaltyDL before he blew up.

I don't mean an epic reworking of a classic that reinvents it with creativity and seems worthwhile..
I mean somebody making a dubstep remix for the sake of it....like mt edens archangel remix actually although thats obviously from the dubstep scene anyway...
what do these people get out of it?
oooh i made it dubstep so it's good now!
i put the most basic and most obvious dubstep drums and drop over it and now it's KEWL....
these people make pointless remixes....it makes me die inside whenever i hear one of these....if you're not sure what i mean check 99% of remixes in the dubs section....
it seems so fickle and throwaway to see the stereotypical elements of a genre making a song better....
you never see people with talent making these do you?
You know, I'm pretty much with you on this one. It's the same in all genres of dance music though... when I was 16/17 it was Trance remixes, then it was DnB remixes... these days it's Dubstep/Electro remixes. It's lazy as fuck, but I guess it's a way of getting pop songs into 'genre' sets so you can give them a bit more crossover appeal... not my bag though, I'd genuinely rather hear a set of Caspa/Rusko tunes than the Top 40 with WOBBLEZ AND SNNNNAAAAAREEES.
Oh, and after my first Bangface Weekender I spent an entire weekend making a breakcore movie theme tune megamix. It's fucking atrocious, but it's some of the purest fun I've had in Ableton.

So do you guys hate the Skream rmx of "in for the Kill"? As somebody obviously likes this, with the gold record and all.
Also Rusko and plenty of other folks in the scene seem to be doing tons of rmxs. One great producerthat comes to mind is The Widdler who everyone on here loves, an he does plenty of rmixes.
Point is, it can be done done right, And I've seen rmxes annihilate a dance. But I agree, that most are shit. For it to stand out, you really have to do something DIFFERENT with it, not throw a standard wobble on it and be done with it, that's bullshit.

I actually can't stand the in for the kill remix but then i can't stand the original either....
I'm not about to debate somethings popularity with you....look at the top 40 and tell you you think its all good music....
I personally can only view brostep remixes of chart tunes as at best a bad joke....

Believe me, I'm no fan of top 40 much either, I am a top 40 hater with the best of them. I find the Skream remix to be standard at best, it sounds pretty much along the lines of what he does best with his sound, though not his best work by any means.
I am just pointing out that not all the remixers are shit producers, what I'm saying is there are some top quality people doing remixes, and not all are of the "brostep" sort.
I like some of the brostep remixes even, though as I said, most are terrible.
