Ganja references in ragga and then ragga jungle are a big part of dubstep's roots. I don't think we could have dubstep today without drugs (or congo natty, who was definately mashed off his tits to spend god knows how long flipping those breaks to and fro )

That comment sounds like it comes from someone who could not imagine what drugs are like.
Loads of people make music on one drug or another in all genres. It was how music started and how it will continue.
I have heard how many producers back in the day were absolutely fucked on drugs when they came up with THAT hook.
For example, Joey Beltram has said he was fucked on MDMA when he came up with the melody for Energy Flash.

agreed 100 percent. also to that post above your being way to general by saying all the most creative artists prolly do drugs. The way your precieve things leading to your creativity can be affected by many things.

... Am I the only one who finds it very difficult to have conversations on a hallucinogenic drug?
It's all mumble & bumbling

jesus hell i was being sarcastic. everybody thinks that they know that music and drugs go hand and hand.
smoking weed or eating mushrooms is not like getting an injection of creativity. it merely is an injection of a fresh set of ears and eyes. you get to see things differently for a while. that can be a good or bad thing. this can lead you to be more creative, or it can lead to you making something incredibly retarded that you think is amazing.
when i'm sitting around smoking with people i always feel like punching the idiots who defend their drug use. everybody knows a couple of people like this. the free the weed, militant drug user type, heavy into experimentation. the type of person that has let this little part of their personality define them. the sort of idiots who come in with a load of shit that they read on the internet about how drugs are good for you and how we need to sync up dark side of the moon and the wizard of oz because it's mind blowing.
god i hate those people.

I actually love congo natty, but dubstep isnt jungle. Sure it has elements, but to say that "Ganja references in ragga and then ragga jungle are a big part of dubstep's roots" is a bit of a long leap. After all Liquid dnb isnt oldskool hardcore is it? they started from the same scene, but they are two different breeds.

im not really looking for an ethical discussion of drug use, im looking for the most drugged up, mind altering, stoned and psychedelic dubstep to get me out of my gourd.

marchmellow- reel simple.
one of my favorite dubstep tracks and it always reminds me of acid trips. you know when you feel like you are literally part of all the instruments and that you are creating each note?

Coki - Burnin is surely an exception to this.

I beg to differ, from what I've noticed they might as well be. I did my 7 years of smoking weed and can officially say it did fuck all for my life except make me a loser for those 7 years.. All my 'mates' who smoked with me who haven't given up are now coke heads who want to fuck everybody over, no ambition in life and only ring you when you want something... So in my experience, everyone who takes drugs has a subconscious mind frame of a junkie.
djaccel wrote:There's actually research that shows that intelligence increases the likelihood of experimenting with substances.
I believe this, but only because I've read into shamanism and the like so much, as much as I'm tempted to take a spirit journey using hallucinogenic substances, I think I'll refrain. All your research shows is that people have temptations when they know enough about something, not that taking drugs is in any way good for creativity. I have issues with paranoia so I know that drugs aren't for me anymore, if I even have a bit of hash cake it will send me into a night of VERY bad trips of paranoia and panic attacks.
In all honesty, I find it hard to believe that drugs are good for creativity and the like. At the end of the day, I have a very vivid imagination and I sometimes dream up amazing orchestras and all sorts, yet it doesn't make it any easier to make in reality. Why would a drug trip be any different?

If you feel it makes sense to take Dubsteps roots all the way back to Dub, you should look into the Dub don (the one that didn't get shot) Lee Scratch Perry, and look at his opinion on drugs since he gave them up. He basically now classes the music he made one drugs as the devils music and had to make 'clean' music to redeem himself (and even his fans)!
