Not sure if this is what you mean but these films certainly left a mark on me:

MarĂa llena eres de gracia (Maria Full of Grace)
Teenage drug mules getting their stomach cut open and left in a bath, one for the kids.

Idi i smotri (Come and See)
N@zi occupation of the SSR and all the fun and games that went with it.

4 luni, 3 ssptamani si 2 zile (4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days)
Backstreet abortions in Communist Romania, nice happy film.

Thing is when I was watching that film I kept thinking how both the British and Americans also did experiments on their own men. Sit them on an island and detonate a nuclear bomb and see what happens to them... and in a few decades deny that it caused them to develop leukemia and for their kids to be born deformed (or still born). I wouldn't be surprised if 'we' did medical experiments too but it's all wrapped up in secrecy.

This. That film was horrific.

The only other film that really left me feeling numb was Dancer In The Dark.

The Idiots left me feeling pretty stunned too but mostly because I couldn't work out what had happened to my life in the previous 90 mins. :?

Men behind the sun is a harsh film, made me feel very uncomfortable.

The cook, the thief, his wife and her lover.

If you haven't seen this watch it, the ending will blow you away. The whole film will to be fair, it's excellent.

Ah yeah, of course. It's pretty much exploitation meets propaganda but it's still a decent flick none the less.

Yeah but you're saying that like the americans or british made men behind the sun. It's not westerners pointing the finger, it's someone who was a victim of it showing what happened.

Fair point. Incidentally, I think the Japanese guy who made it received death threats, which struck me as ironic.

The worst scene for me wasn't the one with the little boy, it was with the two cats. Maybe I have become desensitised to human suffering :?

There is also Cannibal Holocaust, which is pretty twisted.
My old housemate always use to try convincing me it was an actual snuff film.
Fairly brutal in any regard. What with the human testicle ingestion and all.

Apparently the cat scene is real and the director was appalled because he was showing what happened to his family and friends etc and people were more disgusted by what happened to the cats.

The worst scene for me was the pressure chamber I think.

Was going mention this... (it's not real btw, and well documented as a fake snuff film.)

Pi,
Kids,
Requiem for a dream (The book is far more brutal though),
Spun,
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (The first time I saw it I was tripping badly...)

hmmm....

Letters to our fathers and Iwo Jima - as films go these two are right up there in making you think about the losses in war. You have to watch them both though because it gives you two sides of the same story.
