Man, I'm feeling that, stuck in 16 bar loop limbo at the moment and don't seem to be able to get out... Nothing sticks or sounds right.

Sometimes I think a break might help, but I'm still learning and get precious little time as it is... I don't want to waste any more.

go on a sampling binge or have some sound design sessions and sooner or later something will inspire you.

if there's something you don't know how to do watch a youtube video or something, learn the technique and then employ it.

When I get seriously creatively constipated I choose to abuse a new chemical and see what it brings to the surface.

I once tried sobriety, but that didn't lead to many good vibes. I did get a track called "Weedless" out of it, however.

Anyway, same goes for any hobby; switch it up and merge in some transferable skills from other parts o' life

Right, I was having the same problem on and off a few weeks back, and I was watching a video which said (and when you read this your production block will be over!!)....

Imagine you've got the finished product in your hand!

Lets say you wanna write a song, or album, single, EP, whatever. Imagine you've got a CD or Vinyl copy in your hand, and you're looking at it.

Look at the back, imagine what are the track titles?

Pick one track title, and begin to think what it sounds like (i.e. I think the one in the video was called 'Running With The Wind', so that implies fast-moving drums, thumping bass etc - the tutorial was for drum and bass).

Go in and start making those beats

I found this helped me no end! Hopefully will help you too :), the trick is not to think too much about the track titles, just choose the first thing that comes into your head, and you're away! :D

Btw - production block = :u:

Ha nice one, always great to find others that put chemicstry to reasonably good use! Yeah I made a few tracks recently courtesy of super-mushios!

Anyway, tip number two to get some creativity back, cut down on wanking haha

If you've got writers block, go out and do something completely unrelated to music. After a few weeks of doing other things, you will probably feel inspired again! :)

(Works for me anyway)

yess... yesss.... this seems spot on

Thankyou man. I think I now know how to end this block ive been having.

1. quit college
2. move out of mothers house
3. rob a bank
4. live happily ever after

jk

oof, that's where i am right now. it's a change. not necessarily worse, but it's hard to make the shift, and i'm adjusting slowly... am finding myself quite emotional and volatile, so at least music's a good distraction. but it's for the better.. i'm dirt poor and need to work on improving my life.. and when i do, smoking will be all the better :R: :U:
