sorry i dont know the lingo or anything.
free-weight shoulder press. fuck the machine. 4-6 sets. 10 reps a set. 55/60 lbs a dumbbell. that's what I do.

believe me. do it.

and yeah eating a lot combined/gym is key. perhaps that's common sense....but I find "dieting" a.k.a self-imposed starvation to be ridiculous.

Pushups are a really good exercise u can do at home, try n do like 3 or 4 sets of 15. Once your ok doing that try doing them with your feet raised up on a chair or something.

To be honest, you won't generate muscles with just pumping.

I suggest eating healthy, but more than you usually would.

Cardio is great as well.

Any you could do a little routine in the morning / evening (situps, pushups)

i know it doesnt say but do yo know how long and how many you should be doing?

hold for a 1min? 1.30?
This is a great exercise for core muscles (stomach and lower back). Hold as long as you can! You can shift your body forward for more difficulty. Want to add some twist and train your arms, do the plank with free weights or kettlebells <3

I've been trying to put on weight since I was about 19.

It just doesn't work... high metabolism... my body uses all it's excess energy tapping out rythms subconsciously and running *everywhere*.

I go to the gym to stay fit and do some weights which at least means I don't look quite so much like a female transvestite, but pff, I'm gonna be skinny until my body decides otherwise, I think.

Oh, and excuse the plagiarism ch3, but I felt my post should end with:

As part of a new year new start get fit regime, i blew the dust off my weights and haven't gone a night without doing them, i've suprised myself! I started doing reps of 10 on the main arm exercises but have since increased that to 20. I do roughly 5 sets of these, more at weekends. I've also seriously cut on the drinking and I'm reaping the rewards, feeling healthier and more toned. The catch, I've fallen for a girl that does kick boxing.

When doing weight training, make sure you don't over-strain or over-reach yourself. Especially when working the shoulders. Don't go all macho and pick up the heaviest weight you see. For your first couple weeks, start slow until your muscles get a bit used to lifting stuff. Don't do weight training every day, take a break and do other stuff every couple days or so. Work different muscle groups on different days.

MIght have to change your eating habits slightly. No idea how to begin changing, everything I've tried hasn't helped! Although apparently, I've managed to put on a mighty 4 kilos in 5 years! Make sure you have a good amount of protein after you work out as you're a veggie.

There are supposedly different ways to exercise to bulk up depending on your metabolism and body type. Your trainer mate should have some idea. I think, and I'm not sure about this, that working fewer muscle groups in one session helped me a bit. Simply because that was all that was left of the food I ate that hadn't been burned off through my natural metabolism - you can only bulk up if your calorie intake is greater than your output. Some people, of course, can bulk up very easily.

What do you think is a "good" amount? Veggie diet has a sufficient amount of protein and it's a myth that you need a lot. It has to be a good quality and well absorbed protein, too. Fermented soy products like tofu are rich in full proteins. So are chickpeas - if you can sprout them, even better. Lentils combined with full grain rice - good source as well - combining is a clue word in this case though, on their own they only contain some amino acids.

As for Kay and Simon, you just need to eat MORE, regularly. I saw you, Simon, and that pizza!

I've got the opposite problem - I climb (indoors) quite a lot, don't do much aerobic exercise unless I go for a bike ride at the weekend and eat and drink a fair bit, as a result of which I'm getting a hench upper body muscles + beer gut combo.

Go to a childs playground park thingy, do some pull ups, box jumps, push ups, assisted dips, and run. All of that stuff can be seen on youtube.

Hah! So says musclewoman! Bet GWA doesn't eat half of the stuff you just mentioned!

It's all about the raw juicy beef steak oozing in iron and unadulterated protein. :P
